Hello all. Wow, its been a while since I've been here. Just wanted to post this here for anyone thinking of trying to breath new life into their Qosimo. I wanted to give my kid a steam account, and I wanted my computer back. We took the old Toshiba Qosimo and I figured I'd try to put a egpu on it. I upgraded to the latest BIOs v. 2.90 (from 2010 LOL). I took the egpu set up I was using and used the expresscard version and set it up. I got the infamous code 12 error, which means there is not enough resources to run device. I dreaded the DSDT override, this override is a way to increase the PC memory virtually. I went toTechnoinferno, and started to read, and read (ahhhhh) it looked realllll complicated. I'm no tech guy. I searched the web and found this site:

    https://cgc.com.kw/dsdt-override/

Using the method described on this site it took less than 5 minutes and I was done. It uses an all in one program, and best of all its free. I hooked up my GTX 970 and no more code 12. The card and external screen jumped to life. The Steam account is up on the kid is off and running.

    Materials needed/used:

    1-Power Source I'm using Cosair CX850m:

    https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-CX85...&qid=1468104538&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+cx850

    2-expresscard EGPU adapter:

    https://www.amazon.com/Bplus-versio...id=1468104476&sr=8-6&keywords=expresscard+gpu

    3-Zotac GTX 970:

    https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForc...UTF8&qid=1468104605&sr=8-1&keywords=zotac+970

I figured with this the kid can be happy with the qosimo for a while longer. I'm thinking that I probably can upgrade the 970 at some point to a GTX 1080, since I Know a 1080 works on my pc.

Nicely done. I can't help but think what kind of performance gains you'd get with a newer CPU. The i7-940XM was top of the charts, in its day, but that was a long time ago.
