I just bought a Qosmio F15 and am waiting for it in the mail. Has anyone messed around with one of these before? Toshiba is top of the line in my opinion

I too am thinking of getting this exact model but somebody recommended the HP zd8000 and with a $100 more, it gives 1 GB memory 256 GB video ram, 3.4 Pentium 4. however, the tv tuner is external and has 2 so you can record on one channel and watch the other channel. Whether that external connectivity to the TV source will cause degradation on the quality of the recorded program, is what keeps me leaning towards the F-15. the hp has a 17-inch
Can you pm me of your findings as far as quality of recorded tv programs and copied to DVD..problems?
Thanks and enjoy your new laptop. -
I haven't received it yet, it comes tomorrow. I am not so inclined toward HP as the quality is only so-so in my experiences and opinion. The fact that it has a P4 makes me steer clear of it. a P4 in a notebook = NO battery life. The external tv tuner is annoying but the two is kinda nice. I was going for a 17 inch at first but realized that it may be TOO big to carry around safely goign off to school and whatnot so i decided on the F15 which is top notch in quality as far as I am concerned. I'll let you know how it is.

By the way, how is the ease of connecting the tv tuner to your input and record on your hard drive and output it to dvd-r? I will be doing more of the PVR stuff, recording tv episodes like "24" and copying them to dvd.
Thanks in advance for the info.

forgot to ask..
does the F-15 have 2 hard drives like the G-15 -
I've not spent much time with the F series Qosmio, but I've had my G15 for about 6 weeks now and I absolutely love it.
I haven't owned a Tosh in quite sometime. I've been buying ThinkPads since the T23. What wowed me about the Qosmio was the screen. It is, without a doubt, the best screen I have ever seen, portable or desktop. I use a Sony GDM-FW900 has my desktop montitor and I've been using my Qosmio more and more because the screen is just so damn nice! Even my non-techie colleagues have been thoroughly impressed with the screen quality/brightness.
I was very anxious buying the Qosmio, as I've heard that Toshiba's build quality hasn't been what it once was. Well, I'm happy to report that the Qosmio offers the same or better build quality as my old IBM X31. No problems whatsover (knock on wood).
The Qosmio is HUGE, but it's worth the effort to haul it around. Once you get to the office and get her fired up, you forget about lugging it to the office. GF5700, Bluetooth, 802.11G, Video In/Out, 2 HDDs and an 8x DVD-RAM drive? All this and Call of Duty runs wonderfully at 1440x960.
BTW, my company is an Authorized HP Partner and we got some very nice deals on some nx9500s, which offer roughly the same size and feature set. I've compared both side by side and the HPs simply can't hold a candle to the Qosmio.
Just my 2 cents. I know others have been knocking Toshiba for a while, but I just haven't seen the problems mentioned here and in other notebook forums. I've been surprisingly happy with mine. I'm not even looking at replacements yet! -
is the only difference between the G-15 and the F-15 the monitor size? and maybe the 2 hard drives..I can't really tell from Toshiba's website what the difference in specs are besides the screen size

I've had my F15 for about 5 days now and absolutely love it. It is full of features, power, and the screen looks like glass, it is amazing. The only average battery life does not bother me because I am never in a place where I cannot plug in for longer than the battery lasts, and that includes the car. One thing I must mention though, is that when I watch live TV on it and record with the DVR, some stations are really fuzzy. I have yet to see a truly crisp, clear station. This could be due to a lot of things including my own cable connection in my house, the refresh rates on TV vs. computer etc. However, the ability to rewing the parts I missed far overcomes the not perfect quality. I also notice that the audio is never perfectly in sync with the video but that doesn't bother me too much as it isn't too terribly bad. Other than that I absolutely love it.

I have yet to burn a DVD, this is the first DVD burner I've had so maybe it's just the codecs or something making them fuzzy on the screen?

Do the DVDs of regular TV look perfect when played back on your computer?
I think this "fuzzy" TV image is more an issue of scaling the incoming 480i video signal to fit your MUCH higher resolution monitor. I've noticed this on about EVERY TV tuner used at full screen on a computer. It only gets better when you start putting multi-thousand dollar scalers into the video chain. The Qosmio series actually has a seperate hardware scaler built in -- something not a lot of laptops can claim (mostly use software/video card). Regular TV still looks like crap (IMO), but it's slightly better.
DVDs of regular broadcast material will look perfect on a TV because that's the TVs native resolution. They look lousy on a computer (at full screen).
Also -- my TV material always looks perfect when played back on the computer at native resolution (640x480). I'll bet yours is the same.
