    Hey guys,

I thought I would check here first before I call Toshiba CS. I have some backing-up to do, so it'll be at least a few days before I call.

I developed a problem (my first!) on my Qosmio. For the last couple days, when I press the spacebar, it types BOTH a space and a semicolon. Also if I press the semicolon button, it does the same thing as the spacebar: types space and semicolon. Example: " ; ; ; ; ; ", if I constantly tap the spacebar.

It also has the problem with the v and 4 keys. When I press 4, it types v4, and vise vera with v: it types v4.

I will say, if I hold the keys, it will type correctly after it mistypes. For example, if I hold "v", it will type "v4vvvvvvvvvvvv..." etc... This occurs for: spacebar, semicolon, v and 4.

I can verify that using an external keyboard remedies the problem (that is how I am typing this message). I'm guessing this is evidence that the laptop keyboard is faulty and needs replacing? OR could it be a driver/software issue.

I ran a virus scan (MSE and Malwarebytes). Both were negative.

I have searched a found a few threads (on a different site), that show users with the exact problem I have; without solutions.

Thanks and looking forward to input.

Thought I would give an update. Readers should also be aware I have a 2 year "On-Site" warranty upgrade that I purchased for an extra $100.
    =========================================================

I called Toshiba Support today. Went through level 1 trouble shooting for about 30 minutes. Was not able to reach a solution. Was called back within a short amount of time by a level-2 technician. Did another 20 minutes of trouble shooting with him, still to no avail. Both technicians were very polite and courteous.

After the lvl-2 techs attempts, he deemed the keyboard was going bad and he would immediately place an order for a new keyboard to ship out to a Toshiba Authorized repairer in Washington State [where I live]. I would then be contacted by this repairer within 24-48 hours where they will setup an appointment to come out to my home within a day or so after contact.

I am so glad I spent the extra $100 for my warranty upgrade. I feel everyone should do the same; very little down time and fast service. I'm very happy with Toshiba Support thus far.

Will give update after repair is finished.

Just wanted to give an update; incase someone else has the problem; that way they know how to resolve it.

I called Toshiba CS and my problem was diagnosed as a faulty keyboard.

The keyboard was replaced by an On-Site technician. Took about 45 minutes for repairer to replace keyboard; probably could have been faster but he never worked on a Qosmio before. Replacement was pretty easy; do not need to open laptop, just pop off bezal holding keyboard and replace keyboard.

If your laptop is out of warranty, you can buy the x505 series keyboard on Amazon for about $40.

New keyboard works great, no problems.

    Thanks Toshiba! :D

Congrats on getting your lappy fixed. But, I LMAO reading it took the guy 45 minutes to get the key board off. :p Didn't he read the manual in order to do, at the most, a 1 minute task.

Can you give me a link to a X505 keyboard with backlighting? I have a Bilingual non backlit keyboard and hate it.

The technician sent to my house worked for an IT company named Nexicore. He showed up thinking the Qosmio was some type of fancy Satellite, so he assumed the same procedure. For some reason he kept searching for a screw under the laptop to release the keyboard; which he couldn't find; he didn't know all you had to do was remove the keyboard bezel. I ended up printing out the repair manual pages on "replacing keyboard" from the wonderful manual Scanner posted under the "Disassembly" thread; came in VERY handy.
He was still a great technician. Was very careful and courteous. He left my laptop in the same condition I gave it to him (with the exception of the repair).

As for the Keyboard off Amazon, here it is:
    Amazon.com: Keyboard for Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q830, X505-Q832, X505-Q850, X505-Q860, X505-Q862, X505-Q865, X505-Q870, X505-Q875, X505-Q879, X505-Q880, X505-Q882, X505-Q885, X505-Q887, X505-Q888, X505-Q890, X505-Q892, X505-Q893, X505-Q

    Thanks for the feedback.
