    Gday out there!!!!
This toshiba laptop is new, the first time it happened i was simply surfing the net then suddenly get black screen and this continuous low pitch helicopter noise and power button wouldnt work, so i pull out battery and put back in and then was able to restart. 2days later playing halo 2 online for 2 hours then it happened a second time.
So i set power options to "never" then next day playing online for 30 minutes happened a third time black screen+helicopter noise.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could it be to do with it cann't cope with the native resolution 1680X1050????? so ive set on lower resolution.........(see what happens) can any one please help me how to prevent this from happening..........
    Thankyou.............

had a simmilar problem with mine....
seemed to be the graphics drivers.
Mine would lock up randomly to.try uninstalling the drivers completely. remove em twice from safe mode (hold f5 while booting). after that the next boot should recognize yer card as standard vga adaptor.
only after u see this should you upgrade drivers.

    good luck.

    Thanks alot for reply,
Ended up rolling back graphics driver 9800mGTx to factory (out-of-box) version 7.15.11.7689 (my fault updated graphics driver to soon to version 7.15.11.7948)
Advice when receiving a brand new rig dont update graphics driver until certian your out-of-box installed graphics driver is running properly.
NOTE: be cautious of this new version 179.48 (beta) windows vista 32-bit from Nvidia site. Maybe its only for laptops with AGEIA PHYSX Processor installed.
    so far problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!(i hope)................................
