This is way that Intel Turbo Boost works (the way I undestand):

You have 4 cores in the CPU, each one works at X frequency. If only 2 cores are working, and the 2 that are without load or very little, and the conditions of temperature and power conssumption are met, the 2 inactive will share their power with the ones that are working. It works in all cases, 1, 2 or 3 cores can share power. Or if the core 1 is working at 50%, the 2 at 25%, the 3 at 30% and the 4 at 5%, the Turbo Boost will distribute the power, so de 1 will receive more , the 4 will take less, and that kind of situations. The Turbo Boost technology is designed to take the maximum advantage from each core depending the situation. Intel´s vicepresident said "this processor will be the fastest quad-core, the faster dual-core and tha fastest mono-core" (lets see if its true  )

For example, in this case the i7 is to 1.6Ghz and if only 2 cores are working, and the conditions are good (temp, power, etc.) the others will stop working and the ones that are active will boost, for example, reaching 2.4Ghz or something like that.

Sorry if my redaction is not good, i am still learning english. And if my information is wrong, let me know.

Wow, thank you. This is brilliant, although the GPU isn't quite what you would be expecting from the Qosmio series.

Sorry for a newb question, but what difference does this make? I thought one 250 card seemed a little low-end myself for the rest of the system--does the GDDR5 memory make a huge difference in performance?

Just to give you an idea, GDDR5 is almost twice as fast as GDDR3.

Wow, I thought that the GPU didn't fit. It seems I was wrong.

Could you compare it's performance to a major DDR3 card then? Would this card outwork a 280 for example?

Caddy I'm not worried about. I noticed the resolution of the higher priced one was different than the lower priced one.

I'd rather have the lower resolution as it's hard enough to see the res I have now (even with my glasses on) plus tho the SSD drive sounds "fun", my current Tosh laptop/notebook/luggable beast has dual 500's that I installed myself. Once you have all that space, its hard to let it go even for speed. :)

As far as memory, I'd rather wait awhile for the price to drop a bit.

I'll wait until it's released and someone can actually look inside for confirmation before making a purchase decision. Better safe than sorry.

I can't do a desktop where I work from, so my option is laptop and this one seems to fit the requirements. :)

As a gamer, isn't this a low-end GPU? It seems like such a high-end system otherwise--Full HD option, Blu-Ray, SSD, i7 processor, etc. Why would they go with a 250...or does the DDR5 memory make that big a difference?

It makes a noticeable difference on the ATI 4870's, enough so that without the DDR5 it doesn't beat the GTX 280. I'm curious to see some benchmarks on it.

What I want to know why they couldn't put in 1333MHZ and also about the heat how is the heat going to be when gaming. I am going to look up the card on notebookcheck.com

For performance the 1333 won't make much, even no difference. In price it would :p

No, 'low-end' is the wrong word. Its is slower than the GTX260M but that doesnt mean its low-end.

I believe they would have chosen it primarily for reasons of power consumption and heat. The TDP is much less than half that of the GTX260M, and performance is probably about 80% (just a guess). We will see when the first benchmarks get posted.

Yes. The UK/Euro version has a bloody Blu-Ray rewriter (not just a reader) as standard. Those things are expensive, and I don't need one. I would much prefer to lose the BD-RE drive and get a high-quality screen instead.

If you think the X500 spec's are good for the price, have a look at the X505-Q850. Around $2100 here in Bulgaria.

    a) For 18 inches this is not heavy at all
    b) If you think its heavy, try 17-inch Alienware ;)
    c) The power supply is only 100w and quite small and light (contrary of massive 200w 1-kg bricks of X200 & X300), so weight of laptop + power supply actually not big
    d) The laptop is very thin, especially for that size. It almost twice as thin than Alienware and significantly thinner than X200 & X300 - no "wedge-shaped" rear section anymore.
