Sorry for such a noob question but i have not had any luck on two other forums. Recently i acquired a Qosmio x505-q894 in the next couple weeks i will be adding a SSD for boot drive and would also like to upgrade the memory. I called Toshiba today and they told me the laptop only supports 1066mhz ddr3 memory. Im sure this isnt true for this laptop so my question for you guys is does anyone know what the max speed ram these laptops can handle? Or if you don't know the max speed do you know what speeds at least work?

Thanks alexmuw at least now i now 1333mhz ram works, but thats still kind of slow. Does anyone know if 1600mhz or 1866mhz will work?

1600 MHZ ram requires a Chipset with 65 series or above (Sandy Bridge). Yours is only in the 55 series.

actually, i've read that if you acquire an i7 9XX series, it'll support 1600Mhz, although others will only go to 1333

PROJ3CTBM, while I understand your exuberance to induce someone to crack open their laptop to post pics of the guts, you should warn anyone you ask that to do so will VOID THEIR WARRANTY! People might not be aware of this fact and do as you ask to be helpful, and possibly end up screwing themselves if their laptop ever needs warranty repair, kind of like mine does not! I am going to post this in your thread as well, as a potential warning. ;)

Ok thanks alexmuw i did some researching on the 55 series but i could never find any information regarding the memory. that really sucks that these laptops even with i7's cant support 1600mhz.

screw doing that, this is a laptop not a desktop in my book you dont upgrade laptops, you sell and buy new.

Sorry im going to have to pass on that my friend as i dont have a camera to take pictures or i would do it. I already plan on replacing all the thermal paste anyways.

Thanks guy for all the help, im starting to wonder now if i should just skip upgrading the memory and adding a ssd. My new idea is i will be over in china studying abroad and i could just get my hands on a new x505 18.4" with a 1080p screen and i7 sandy bridge cpu. If you don't believe me go to the chinese toshiba webiste and look at the x505 qosmio its a slap in the face to the US buyers.
