I'm thinking of getting a Qosmio X505 but am struggling with whether it's worth the extra money to get one with the 460 GPU versus the cheaper one with the 360 GPU. Can people who have seen and used both on an X505 chime in so I can get a better idea of which way to go? I've played with one that had the 460 and love it but it's a bit out of my price range.

Thanks ahead of time for your help. :)

Honestly, the difference between the 360m and 460m is significant enough that I would definitely go with the Qosmios having the 460m. There are several other factors to consider as well.

Amazon has SERIOUSLY discounted the Q893 (the model I bought) so that its EVERYDAY low price is $1,109.99.

Amazon.com: Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q893 TruBrite 18.4-Inch Laptop (Black): Electronics

Honestly, in my opinion, this is an overall better gaming machine (gaming not all around) than even the 360m based Qosmios going for upwards of two thousand. In addition, every few days, Amazon keeps blowing these Q893's out for $899.99 with FREE shipping, but that lasts only a few hours and you really have to catch it in the right time. The truth is that for gaming, you are BETTER OFF with a 460m + i5 processor than you are with a 360m + i7, and you will pay less for the i5 based Qosmio with the 460m than you will for the i7 based Qosmio with the 360m.

Again, my post is assuming you are going to be doing a lot of gaming. If not, I would still get the Q893 for either the full price or the seriously discounted one that only lasts a couple of hours at a time and has to be caught right within a small window.

Hope this helps! Oh and read my review of the X505-Q893, as perhaps that will help as well.

yep I agree with ChiroVette. I was thinking the same thing as you dlai, about getting the 360 or 460 graphics card and with my history in buying computers the 360 will be obsolete soon and won't be able to push modern games, and games are state of the art as far as software is concerned. So go ahead and future proof your investment since you'll already be paying over $800 just round it off. Like the saying goes, "buy the best one and cry for one day, or buy the cheap one and cry everyday." something like that. lol

I just recieved my X505-Q896 yesterday! I absolutely love it, the 460 is definately worth the extra money if you are going to use it for gaming. It is way bigger in person than I thought it would be.

    Hello,

One of the biggest differences you'll see between the 360 and 460 is the heat. Unfortunately the 360 Qosmio's were plagued with heat issues. Not to the extent of overheating, but they ran hot.

I've run Furmark on a 360 and 460 Qosmio side by side, and there is a 10-15 degree difference in the max heat reached. I ran this test a couple months ago and I did not capture any screenshots, however I can say that the max heat on the 360 reached roughly 95-98c where as the 460 reached 85-89c.

The 460 is a better all around GPU...

    In Peace and Agape,

The 460 is almost twice as fast as the 360 in some games...but they both run hot in the Toshiba compared to Asus G73

Hotter than the ASUS G73? I doubt that, I have owned both and the ASUS runs terribly hot. You won't notice in just by the feel of the laptop itself, but run an OCCT on it and you will see. I had the Qosmio you are speaking of with the 360 and it didn't run hot at all.

There is quite a performance gap between the two cards, but you won't notice it really with most of the games you play. The 360 is still a very good card that is rated in the high end section.

Yeah, but keep a few things in mind: You can buy an i5 based Qosmio with the 460 for between $900.00 (A real steal if you can get the lightning deal!) and just over $1,100.00 and for the price, you are getting a far more "future-proofed" lappy in the 460m based machines. Should you decide you want to play newer games for whatever reason, you may regret the 360m based machines, to be honest.

I would agree with the above statement. I think the i5 will last quite a while as there are tests that show it to be as fast as the i7 in some situations. I think the fact that we have little that can use the full i7 processing, is a major point too. Kind of overkill at this point, but great processors.

Well keep in mind, as I think I said in my first post in this thread, that for uses such as video or audio editing, Autocad, other non-gaming applications the i7 will be a much better processor. The thing is, though, that in gaming, I don't see the big difference between an i5 and an i7. So I believe you get more bang for your buck with the 460 and i5 combination, and for a cheaper price than you will for an 360 and i7 combination.

i pondered the same thing the 360m vs the 460m, i picked up a x505-q870 with the i7 and 360m for 700.00 and its a complete powerhouse. it has alot of gaming capability even with the 360m.

personally i like the i7 with the 360m configuration, as the the i7 is a superior processor which is great to have if you dont game as much like me. verses having a slightly more powerful gpu and slightly insuperior processor.

bottom line these qosmio laptop are hardcore for sure.

i just bought 8gb of ram upgrade cant wait to install it

Good find. 700 is half of what I paid for the 460m equivalent
If the 360m will satisfy your needs, I would go with that!!!
I went with the 460m, hoping it will have some future-proofing to it. Will keep this laptop for probably 6+ years.

I just ordered the same comp but with a 460m, cost me $1400 @ Costco.com (However, i get 90 days return and 2nd yr Toshiba warranty for free).
