i'm thinking of getting a new Qosmio, but i read about it shutting down when playing games. Also, it says toshiba can't solve the problem and sends back the laptops with the same condition.

Is it a common problem? Did anyone face the same problem?

I don't know if i can post here a link to the forum that talks about the problem

"shutting down when playing games"? Are you sure you are not mistaken X305 with X505?

Wierd. I've played plenty of very graphics-intensive games (ie MW2, DiRT 2) and never had an issue.
This even taking in mind I've actually overclocked my GPU - and ran very intensive stress testing both on CPU and GPU. Haven't managed to cause overheating, just fans going to high speed. Power consumption in this "torture test" went slightly over the rated power supply 120W figure, but it did not cause any apparent problems (and such scenario never happened during in usual games anyway)...

Btw, to me it looks like "blue screen of death". Since by default Windows now not keeps blue scren on, but just switches the power off - hence the perceived "shut down", when in fact it was something like video driver crash. Could be driver related/software problem.

I reinstalled complete OS from scratch on reformatted HDD, so maybe that's why it working perfectly for me.

I've been following that thread. I'd venture to guess that they have a thermal issue. FAN or heatsink loose in shipping, etc. I made a similar comment there. Fortunately my q850 has been nothing but EXTREMELY stable.

I haven't experienced anything at all from this. I have a great machine, worse comes to worse i can just go to my local j and r and get it worked, i have to put the extra one year warranty soon enough.

it's good to hear that :)
    thanks all for the replies.
About the fan or heatsink being loose, someone replied that when they send the laptop back to toshiba, they don't work out the problem and if it was one of these problems they would have figure it out.

Is there much heat or noise while playing games? I didn't have any laptop more than 15" and I hear about a lot of heat and noise issues from 17" laptops.

Yes the fans pick up a lot of speed when your gaming, but you have to understand that these type of things happen, its normal, the bigger the machine the better the cooling it is going to be but also depends on the company. Worse comes to worse you can purchase arctic cooling thermal paste.
