I just received the prebuilt Qosmio X775-3DV80 laptop from ToshibaDirect. The specs indicate that the hard disk drives are 500GB (Hybrid 4GB) and 750GB respectively. On my desktop, their sizes are 449 and 698. Is this right, considering the different way the computer shows size (power of 2)?

Ya that's Correct; see here for more info: Hard disk label vs. actual capacity difference seems excessive... - Hard-Disks - Storage
Also remember, one of your drives [I presume the 500 GB, has Windows installed on it; thus taking space].
Blame the harddrive manufacturers -
Thank you Alex. The numbers that I gave (449 and 698) were the total. The available space on the first one was less of course, as you noted, because of the OS and other programs.
What I find puzzling is that each hard drive has a difference of about 50 GB (449+50 ~ 500 and 698+50~750). Shouldn't the larger drive's difference be greater, since its size is greater? -
Could be the Recovery Partition; I think that's another 10-20 GB.
That reminds me, make sure you burn your Recovery Disks and have the "verify" option enabled.
Good luck and enjoy your new Qosmio! -
Ok Alex, thanks for the help.
