    Hi,

I have been a happy owner of an x770 laptop, been working great for over a year, and today
I was carrying the laptop in my hand, and in the same hand I had a bunch of mini screw drivers, and I think that while I was carrying it, one of the screw driver heads went through the lcd cover from the bottom and penetrated the lcd flex cable.

I am not sure if this is actually what happened or what caused this. When I turned the laptop on later, the screen would not turn on, (no backlight), and there was a burning smell at the very bottom of the lcd display bezel, eventually melting the plastic. Immediately I opened up the LCD cover to find this:

I see that a lot of the wires have been melted and are now stuck to each other.
I am not sure if this caused the actual LCD to stop working. I have removed the LCD display,
but I am not sure if both the LCD cable and the LCD need replacement.

Do you guys think this could have caused the LCD to burn out also?

I want to save money, and I see that an lcd flex cable for this model goes for 60+ dollars on the internet. Should I just try
cutting the melted wired off and reconnecting each wire individually, or should I just order a new flex cable and see if that works? And if the new flex cable doesnt solve the problem, I guess I'd have to order a new LCD also.

    What do you guys think
