    Hello,

As mentioned in other threads, I am about to purchase a Toshiba Satellite P20-552, but before I go ahead, I'd just like to know whether the quality of Toshiba's computers are any good.

    - How's build quality? Any creaking cases or squeaky surfaces?
    - What about failing components?
    - Overheating?
    - Quality assurance control: e.g. are unevenly backlit screens common?
    - Dead pixels?

Basically, what do you think of the quality of Toshiba's computers? I went down to the store and played a little with it, but not enough to be sure.

Here's a post from ReverandDC regarding the P25 (US model) stating that it's getting great reviews.

The build quality is good, but I also depends on the system that you get. Some people may not have any issues at all, but others may have LCD issues (dead pixels, etc...). But their P2x series notebooks are probably one of there more popular notebooks and therefore the quality must be pretty good.

I'd recommend buying it from a store that will allow for returns. This is probably the best way to find out if the unit will fit your needs. I've read posts from some users who bought uber-powerful notebooks, but then ended up returning them because it was too big and heavy. So look for a shop that will accept returns for 100% money back, don't want to get hit by any charges.

Toshiba's higher end stuff is of good quality, and it appears that they learned from their mistakes with the Tecra 8000 series [shutter]. Most of the complaints come from the low and low-mid end systems. The P2x series has been universally hailed, so I think that you would have nothing to worry about in terms of quality.

If you want good quality with max power, go with the P2x series...if max portability, go with a Tecra M2.
