Hello, I was about to buy a Satellite A217-4757 or 4809...
Then I started reading about "blacking out screens" and problems during shut down. I don't have time for these "early vista issues" if that's all they are...
I may stick with my 6 yr old, never failed me once, toshiba satellite, until the service pack 1 is shipping in vista. Can someone tell me what they know about these isssues, I really like the A215.....(I also like the A205 as well!)...but i was digging the sale price on the A215...and it's good looks...
    thank you!!

    joe

Well, Vista SP1 should be out pretty soon, before the end of the year, I think.
I dunno much about the issues with the A2xx

I mean really...I hear alot of complaints. Forget older software compatability issues, i don't own alot of software anyway....i just don't want the issues i'm hearing about...
    thanks, joe..

Purchased it 4 days ago, and the blackout screen issue happened twice so far. Once was when the laptop went to sleep after leaving it idle for 15 minutes. I couldn't get it to wake up again. The other time was in the middle of viewing the Pinnacle website. Once it happens, all I can do is powering down the system using the power button, and powering it back up again.

I don't know if it's a Vista issue, but so far it happens so randomly that it's hard to diagnose. I hope it isn't a hardware problem, since other people are experiencing this. Has anyone else had this happen and got it fixed? If so, care to share how you did it?

I did hear it is a vista issue, it has to do with "hybernation", other than that, I don't know what to say...I was excited to get the Satellite 4807 from circuit city. They were having a special, it was 230.00 instant savings so the unit was 699.00. (i asked them to email me when it came in, they did alright but it's of sale and they won't honor it, bastards.) So the other option was the 4757 from staples, it is 799 from 949.00
Oh Yah, I do remember hearing it may be caused indirectly from the antivirus or fire wall.....but it's still linked to hybernation....does anyone else know if this is true?? And Toshiba must know about it, so maybe here's a download to fix it??
