    Hey everyone,

    I'm thinking about getting a laptop in the not-so-near future (when Ivy Bridge processors come out) and Toshiba is on the table. I have some questions regarding the Toshiba business lines.

    Other than screen-size and the inclusion/exclusion of a num pad, what are the differences between the various models? I realize that the Portege doesn't have the option of a dedicated GPU nor does it have a pointing stick, but other than that, what are the differences? Any in terms of max RAM, CPUs available in configurations (any quad core), etc.?

    Am I capable of adding a second drive instead of the optical drive? Or a battery? Basically anything other than an optical drive ;).

    How does the pointing stick compare to Lenovo laptops?

    Do you think they'll redesign these lines for next year's release?

    Cheers

    From my understanding, the Portege comes in 2 flavors: a stripped down consumer version (like the Best Buy version) that doesn't have expresscard slot. While the more business portege [and Tecra] does have the expresscard slot (as with other upgradable options). There could be other differences.

    Toshiba - Portege Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 13.3" Display / 4GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive - Blue - R835-P70
    Toshiba Direct | Portege Laptops & Notebook Computers

    Tecra
    Toshiba Direct | Tecra Laptops & Notebook Computers

    As for the Portege (P) vs Tecra (T), the main differences are:

    P= 13.3" screen 720p resolution, GLOSSY
    T=14" screen 720p resolution MATTE w/ option to upgrade to 900p

    P=metal chassis
    T=Carbon Fiber chassis (supposed to be more sturdy than portege)

    and as you had mentioned:
    P= Intel graphics
    T=optional Dedicated ATI GPU

    ======================================
    Pointing stick, no idea.

    Redesign (maybe, but doubt it since they just redesigned the 800 series).

    I'm thinking those are it. Good luck

    I saw a Portege the other day, and it had a matte screen. Can I add a second hard drive to any of these, using the optical drive bay? And does anyone have any photos of the 9-cell battery?
