In the Staples flyer there is a Toshiva laptop on sale the add reads:
    Toshiva Satellite Laptop
    Intel Celeron M Processor 520
    • 1.6 GHz,533 FSB
    • 1 GB DDR-2 SD RAM
    • 120 GB hard drive
    • Super Multi DVD drive
    • Wireless B/G,Firewall 400
    • TV-OUT

I have no idea WHAT any of that stuff in the list means someone help as I need to present a good sound evidence ridden arguement before she'll let me buy it.

the first two items on the list have to do with speed - my computer is 1.8 ghz and 2 gb ram.... hard drive is obvious.... super multi dvd drive , im assuming this is a dvd-rom and burner? ... wireless b/g is for wi-fi .... tv-out you can hook your lappy to your tv and watch whatever is on your laptop on a tv...

    ;)

I want to use this laptop for School mostly for wordprocessing. The add does not list what hardware it come with so I have no idea If I'm getting Windows Vista with it or not. I can only awesume that it does.

Basicly what it needs to do is be able to run dragon speack,Wordprocessing, and CD-ROM's for fun. I thinK i may have my mom convinced! I'm so happy!

Just a concern to be aware of, Toshiba's low-end notebooks are known to be rubbish. Just know what your getting into before you buy it.

It's orignaly almost $900 so I can only awesume that is at least semi-decent. I only need it to use Windows MS word. Nothing else. So there fore will this laptop do that run a word pad or some program like it...

Yes, runinng word, office software, surfing the internet should pose any problems to the notebook with that hardware but it is still a pretty lowend PC and will be sluggish with only 1GB RAM and the junk software Toshiba installs.

My A135 is perfect for non-gaming tasks in the home, but due to the horrible battery life (2.5 hours) it's not the choice that I would go with for portability, unless you're constantly going to be near an outlet.

To make it useable in that regard you will need to buy an 8-cell battery from Toshiba for like $130-150.

The specs seem a tad low for a 900$ machine... My A135 was 550$, and I bought another 1GB of RAM for it for ~55$ (see my signature). The dual core processor I have runs at 1.6GHz (and the processor you're looking at is single core). Keep in mind that my laptop is also months old. If you're going to spend 900$ on a laptop, look for something with a Core 2 Duo or some other higher performance part(s) to justify the cost.
