First off does anyone have one and how do you like it?

I was wandering if its a good general laptop for the price. How well does a 8700m perform for games? Is the general use of the laptop fast?

Anyone have any input on how the specs stack up to other 1500$ laptops?

performance wise i am able to play call of duty 4 at 1440 x 900 resolution anywhere between 45 to 60 fps and crysis at 1440 x 900 resolution around 30 fps with all settings on low. no overclocking of the video card either.

as for the specs....it has a 1.83 ghz core 2 duo intel t5550 processor, 2gb ddr2-667mhz ram, 250 gb 5400 rpm hard drive....computer is plenty fast for what i do. i only upgraded to 4gb of ram because i like to have a little bit of headroom for when i start multi-tasking.

I could Xirurg but the rest of the system would need upgrades and push the price too high for me!

Any opinions on the build/screen of the X205 vs. the Gateway FX?

I don't know about the FX, but I suspect the X205 is better built. I saw a post by someone who compared the two and said the Tosh was better, more solid, etc.. But both sounded acceptable. I think the FX has a few more rough edges in general terms, but maybe someone here who actually knows can say. The FX is certainly priced right, but so is the X205-S9800. Having had good luck with Toshiba products, I went for the S9800.
