OK I just inserted a CD for my laptop to play and suddenly I get this LOUD noise coming out from the hard drive. Is this normal? I'm not sure wether this is also a problem for other Toshiba laptop owners..

HD Tune is a good hard drive utility. Loud noises are generally not good. I suggest backing up your data soon.

Well, think of it as a CD running in a drive inside a motherboard without the case [except louder, not smooth and silent].

It is not unheard of for drives to go bad. The drive on my ThinkPad failed after about six months.
