I had a toshiba laptop that I had bought an extended 12 cell battery for. It worked great for the most part but the batterys awkward size and weight was its downfall. Turns out it was to heavy for its own good. I picked it up and the battery came unlatched and fell out while the laptop was running. The laptop from this point on only displayed garbage.
So I shipped the laptop out to a company called laptop rescue to see what the problem is. After all the only thing that happened was the battery fell out how bad could it be. It turns out real bad. IT shorted out the motherboard causing permanent damage.
The replacement motherboard cost more then the laptop was worth. so I bid it goodbye. So the moral of the story is Never ever remove the battery if you can help it while the laptop is running. Especially while plugged in.

Thanks for the tip. I have done this before

I've accidently done this, too (don't ask), but luckily, no probs.

I've taken the battery in and out with the ac plugged in tons of times.
Never been a problem, I dunno why it happened to you.
