Can't seem to find any reviews on the A605 and don't see any threads here mentioning it. I've compared features and it seems that I can't find any overwhelming reason to choose one vs. the other. Is there something I've overlooked? Is the A605 a newer model? Maybe more durable?

(My wife wants a super light ultraportable for travel.)

OK, I couldn't wait so I hit the stores today. I procrastinated too long to be comfortable ordering online. I found the A605 at one retailer for $1500 and then found it at Fry's for $1300. I don't really like buying something like this at Fry's because they really put the hard sell on you for their extended service plan, then for anti-virus software and for a printer, but it was my only choice this late in the game. I'll unbox it and try it out, then gift wrap it for Christmas.

Debated both, but I ended up spending a little more for the R500. Picked it over the A605 mostly due to size and weight.

After handling the A605 it is hard to imagine something smaller and lighter than it is. The A605 already seems so light that you wonder how it can really work. The only advantage I can envision to even less weight is for someone who wants to carry the machine in a big purse or messenger bag. If I had mail-ordered I probably would have gone for the R500, as it was I needed to buy local, never found an R500 and only found two places that sold the A605.
