    Hi,

does anyone know if it's easily possible to change the integrated wifi card?
Is Toshiba as restrictive as HP and Lenovo in that it has a bios whitelist? Do they officially "allow" to replace the internal wifi card?
I never had a Toshiba notebook and currently I need to choose between a Samsung 900x and the Toshiba. Unfortunately both of those come with only 802.11bgn Atheros in my country. But I need 802.11a too. So I was wondering if I could just replace the wifi adapter with an intel 5300 or another Atheros card that support 5Ghz...

Thanks a lot for some info.

any update on this? I could be stuck with whitelist problem, I wonder if Toshiba only used that limitation on their Qosmio series laptops...

I was able to swap out the N1000 mini PCI-E card for a 6230 card yesterday. Now I have Bluetooth on my R835-P56X. Just remember to install the Toshiba Bluetooth stack drivers from the Toshiba Website and the bluetooth works.

Swapping out the cards is pretty straight forward, just remove one screw, and you can pull out the card. Then just carefully remove the antenna. Just remember to put the correct ones in the right place. Only thing that could be a problem is, I don't know if the Atheros cards has one or 2 antennas.

NomisR. By any chance you have the instruction to do that? I purchased a 6230 and am looking to do the same but I don't know where is the wireless card located. I know I can easily get to the Memory and HDD.

    Thanks in advance

huoyjii, in most Toshiba laptops, the Wireless card is located under the keyboard.

    Watch this video,
at 2:28 you can see he is disconnecting the antennas..

It is not the same model, but again, it is a Toshiba.

I would expect the R830 to be similar to the R700 and you will need to remove the base (about 20 screws but otherwise easy). On the R700 some of the screws are longer than the rest but Toshiba has conveniently marked their holes with "S4".
