    Hi all,

I am planning on purchasing the R835-P50x from Best Buy mainly because of the cost. I need a light-weight laptop and this seems to do it cost wise (was mainly looking at the Lenovo X220 which is starting to ship now).

Anyway, I have built many desktops but have never modified a laptop. The RAM replacement seems simple enough. I want to replace the HDD with a SSD. I see that many have done this. My question is really about the OS. Would this be similar to starting off a new desktop in that once the SSD is in place, I would need to install a new Win7 OEM disk?
In other words, the cost of replacing the existing HDD would be the new Win 7 OEM OS plus the SSD cost?

My next question has to do with the Toshiba driver installation. I looked at the instructions. Basically once the new OS is in place, I just download and install the drivers off the Tohsiba website?

Sorry if this all sounds basic, as I stated I have never tinkered with a laptop. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

there is win 7 serial sticker under the laptop. You can always use that serial to install windows again and again. All you need is windows dvd. You should be able to download it form somewhere.

Unless you want to do a clean install of Windows in order to remove the Toshiba bloatware, cloning the existing HDD onto the SSD is the quickest route. For this you will need some cloning software (I use Acronis TrueImage 2011) and an external enclosure (eSATA recommended for best performance).

I just picked up the laptop from Best buy. Thanks for the replies. I think I will reinstall Win7 on the SSD.
