I normally use an external Creative PCI-E card for my audio but now after a fresh XP SP3 install I cannot get any audio device to be noticed by Windows. I even removed the card and tryed to get the onboard RealTek HD device to work but with no such luck.
At first try, I used the upgraded download from Toshiba and it looks like it got installed but cannot get it to show up in audio pacontrol pannel. Nothing shows up at device mananger as not installed, yet the audio device is not found by any media.
I go back to my Creative X-Fi and I can install the device driver but after I get an unknown PCI device and cannot find what it is. Is it from my external card or a bus device driver that didnt get installed in the beginning?
Can somebod at least reply if you have anywhere the near same experience with a fresh XP install on freshly formatted drive.

My US model as A105 is not clear as to what it uses as the audio codec. The Canadian version as A100 SK900E looks like it uses the Realtek ALC861.
How do I confirm my audio codec model numbet so I can get driver directly from vendor? -
Hey Lappie,
I had the same issues with my Toshiba X205 after a fresh SP3 installation.
Download the attachment I made, unpack it into your folder of choice.
Then move over to the control panel and select that "PCI Device". Rightclick and install the audio bus drivers I provided for the PCI Device. During installation Windows should find something like Microsoft UAA Bus driver, I don't know the exact name. Do a restart after installation and everything should work fine.

I had problems with all my games paying really slow after installed sp3, so I uninstalled sp3 and the problems went away. I had even tried reinstalling the video card drivers while sp3 was installed but this did not help and that is why I am back to sp2.

So you guys actually got Microsoft UAA and AC97 + HD Audio to install and work on fresh intall?
I can't even get any of the drivers to indicate that they got installed. Nothing under Device Manager for UAA or RealTek Audio after UAAA, restart, then Realtek Audio Device driver for ALC861 v1.84. Audio controll pannel does not detect any audio device with my XP SP3 install. Otherwise, system performs great, especiall the SATA ICH controllewr in AHCI and network brousing. Wi-Fi feels the the same, but configures a lot quicker upon resume from S3 and S4. Power management is snappier too.
The problem with this UAA and Realtek appears to be with service pack 3. I cannot install several of the fixes because SP3 thinks they're too old. I have an edited pack for the Intel HD Audio fix but it is not self install so I dont know where or how to integrate it into existing OS. -
did you try the KB888111 hotfix????? You need it for an X205 for XP to recognize the HD Audio bus (holds the sound card and modem). I don't know if it will fix yours or not.

This ONLY works with SP2,not SP3. I found out the hard way. I don't know if Microsoft will release a version for SP3 or not. -
y2khardtop,
Thanks, I did do that on my 2nd attemp with XP Pro SP2 and it worked, but not find out till after Intel AHCI/RAID was installed and I had an extra bus PCI device and I had to get the UAA installed by updating this driver afterthe UAA fix and PCI-E Express drivers were installed to get it to show up so now I have 2 devices under SCSI & RAID controllers.
I do have the edited fix for SP3 but could not figure out how to install manually since it is not self launching anymore. I have them extracted but not sure where to copy them to.
At first, I could not get the Realtek console to finish installing cause of the UAA but my external card worked but only as headphone and SP/DIF to my external reciever.
So it seams to be all good now but what a challange to get it the first time.
So is it easy to slip these fixes and Intel RAID/AHCI for future install with my current X-Fi external card too? Can I also integrate my edited WMP11 and IE7 plus any antivirus and cleaners I use? -
Thnks a lot y2khardtop ,
I was looking for a solution for this issue with no luck for 2 weeks now,
I could only find answers for noobs (reboot , install before this or you will destroy your machine, then reboot again...lol)
thnks for uploading this wonderfull add on . -
Now on my XP SP2 install I can't get my Creative X-Fi Audio to work through speakers, only the Realtek. If I enable it in audio devices, sound drops out and can only be heard via Creative sound card headphone jack and fiber optic out to external reciever. I can also now see the audio meter level on my recording apps and even ecord it but cant hear it or play it till I renable the Realtek to play back sound.
Was there a correct order of installs of the UAA plus audio drivers? Do I have to have the Realtek audio device installed? I dont see anything for AC97 codac, do we not have this anymore? -
Quick question.
I have downloaded this file from this site. But Im not sure how to unpack / extract it? What app are you all using to open it?

I am trying very hard to fix this same audio problem described in this thread. I have downgraded from Vista to Xp on a Acer 7520........
Thanks -
Good luck on your quest. If you are asking about the UAA edited fix, I got no replys in almost 2 months. I gave up a week after and just installed XP Pro SP2 for now, and will likely just go back to XP Pro x64 as I like it better for stability and smoothness with 4gb of RAM.
The link you used didnt work for me to see. But I got the files and they are extracted and edited but not sure on how or where to put them.
Can somebody with experience adding hotfixes manually please help out? -
hi everyone. i don't know if this is still needed, but i'm posting it anyway
i have a thinkpad z60m and just ran into the same problem with the audio driver after SP3
the provided attachment obviously doesn't have an extension and i couldn't guess it..
however it was a great idea to install the drivers manually for PCI device - just unzip the KB81111.... hotfix with winrar and then install the driver manually from the commonfiles folder of the unzipper hotfix. -
glad my fix helped some of the problems. In my case, I streamlined the KB888111 hotfix into my XP Pro install disc, then I manually installed the audio driver once XP was up and running. THEN, after everything was working, I installed SP3. I'm now using the latest SP3 public beta with no problems (that I've noticed)
