I have a Toshiba x505-Q890 with Windows 7 (64 bit) and want to create more room on the 64GB SSD that came with it. I have used the Toshiba utility that migrates certain folders from the SSD drive to the HDD drive and I understand that I should try to install new applications on the HDD (except for those that I want on the faster SSD). While I have been searching Google and reading the forums to find answers, I am still a bit unclear as to the best (or alternative ways to do this) beyond the two I just mentioned.

I created the 5 Recovery Discs per the instructions in the user manual on page 69. Next, there is a section called “Erasing The Internal Storage Drive” which I understand. However, it’s the next phase that is unclear to me.

There is a section called “Recovering The Internal Storage Drive” which tells you how to use the Recovery Discs, but does not indicate that there is an option to put some of the files (e.g., the OS) on the SSD drive and other programs from the Disc on the HDD. The directions talk about restoring to an “out of box” state which is obviously what I’m trying to change.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Does the “Recovery” process outlined in the manual allow for customization so that certain programs from the Recovery Discs can be put on the drive I choose?

    2. If so, what kind of time should I allow for the installation process?

    3. If not, are there certain folders (listed below) that I could simply drag and drop from the SSD to the HDD without affecting their performance (i.e., other than the fact that they are being loaded on to a slower drive)?

    4. Of the folders/programs listed below, what do you consider to be bloatware?

    5. In Disk Management, I see what appear to be 3 “partitions” that indicate a 1.46 GB Healthy (Active, Recovery Partition), a 47.66 GB NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition), and a 10.5 GB Healthy (Primary Partition) and would appreciate a little further explanation on how to recover some of the space being used. For example, do I just select the 10.5 GB partition and delete it since I have my Recovery Disks?

    Thanks in advance.
