After a couple of weeks of owning my Satellite M55, the fan noise is finally driving me insane as I've just started to use it in places with very little to no backround noise just surfing the web. The fan keeps coming on every 10 seconds or so and its driving me mad, its just torture I tell you!

Can anyone please advice on how to reduce the noise? I'm sure I have to undervolt or underclock or something like that, but I'm a total newbie at this. I already downloaded Notebook Hardware Control and installed it but what do I do with it exactly? Thanks.

I'll check it out right now.
I actually don't even mind the fan noise too much, its the frequent going on and off that annoys me so much. If I can't reduce or eliminate the fan noise, I'd at least like it to stay on all the time instead of going on and off every 10 dang seconds.

The same thing happened to me. I figured that the heat is produced by the hard drive located below the touch pad where there is no room between the hard drive and the table.

I initially put damped cloth so that the heat would transferred from the hd to to the cloth. It actually worked really well, but then you have to re wet the cloth every once in a while which is really cumbersome.

Now, i use vantec lapcool 3, only cost me 25 CAD, and the hd is cool, stabilize at 40-43 C (vs 48-50 before) even after 8-10 hours of straight usage, and the fan never comes on again.
When i played light games like football manager, it only reaches 45-46. After a while, it'll go down to 40-43 again.
It's not the best looking thing in the world, but for working in long period of time on your desk, i guess it doesnt really matter. If you'd like to carry your laptop around, the chances are you won't be using your laptop as long as you would in your room or maybe you do.. lol.

It also works really well on your lap or on any unflat surfaces.
It's pretty light. Now it seems that i work for vantec, lol. I don't, i'm just one happy customer.

    That's my 2 cent.

Have you put your fan settings on power saver? because my fan is very quite, if it's even on when it's on power saving mode.
