    Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop that I have been using for about 3 years. I set up a password for its HDD the first day I got it. Now I upgrade the HDD to bigger one and would like to use the original one (40GB) as an external HDD. But this 40GB is useless unless its password is removed because when using as external drive, you have no option to enter a password.

Is there anyway to remove this password? Of course I still know this password just don't want it saved in the HDD anymore.

I am not sure if I remember correctly but I think I could remove or change the HDD password in the laptop's BIOS. Now I don't see any option to remove or change HDD password in the BIOS of Toshiba Tecra M2 anymore.

Called Toshiba and they said there is no way to change or remove a password on HDD once it has been set even if the password is known. Is it true?

    Really appreciate for any help!

    Thanks

So put in the old HDD, remove the password, and put the new one back in.
I think you don't really know it.

Go into the BIOS and choose to change the hard drive password. It asks you for the old one, and asks for the new one.

Give it the old password, you know it right?

For the new password, leave the field blank and submit the changes.

    Password removed.

Now, since I agree with talin that you really do not know the password and are just a crook with a stolen laptop, I'm banning you and closing this thread.

We get about 10 first time spam posters asking about this per day, so I'm pretty sure you're a crook.

    Closed.
