Hi all.
I have a Satellite 1625 CDT, and I'm looking to replace the CD-ROM and the keyboard. A few of the keyboard's keys are dead (as a result of a couple drops of water), and the CD-ROM will no longer recognize data CDs but ejects them (will play audio CDs.. go figure!). Anyway, I've never opened this laptop up. I have done plenty of upgrading on desktops, but I'm not exactly sure where to start with this. If it's not too difficult to open up the computer, I would love to replace the CD-ROM and keyboard. I guess what I'm mainly asking is if anybody knows how to open this thing up!
Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

This is one Toshiba I have not taken apart. It's a US model, don't think it was available in Canada. Normally, if the CDROM is not accessable (user removable), you'd have to pretty much disassemble approx half of the notebook (top half) before you can get access to the CDROM. The keyboard is an easier task, normally held down by 2 or more screws on the bottom. Remove a plastic bezel which is usually located just above the keyboard, but some have a complete plastic piece that wraps around the LCD hinges. After the bezel is removed, the keyboard should just pop out. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the system board and viola. Just be careful not to break the slot holding the ribbon cable, if you break the tabs, the ribbon cable won't hold anymore and you're in trouble. It's probably a better idea to take it to a Toshiba service centre and get it fixed. It'll get done properly (hopefully) and you'll get back a fully working notebook.
