I recently bought a X300-G1, its a Canadan version, ill list the specs after my post. I use an HDMI cable to get to my HD tv, no problems there at all, its the sound i cant get to work. BTW im using a hdmi, but my recever is not HDMI sound capable.

This S/PDIF output is driving me nuts. When i unplug it i see a red light inside the jack??? Is it optical or coax? I have tried a regular pair of headphones, and yes i get sound. However using an RCA cable to my Receiver, no sound whatsoever. So what do i need to get 5.1 sound out to my receiver, it accepts coax or fibre. Do these connectors do both on the Toshiba?

Ive seen another post showing an adapter for this type of output to make it compatible with fibre cable. Im just so lost here, never ran into anything like this, before i just hooked up my s video out, then my rca cables to the receiver and used fake surround lol

Help!!!! and thanks for responses. Heres the specs.

Go to the control panel (while plugged into TV) and go to sound settings and change output to nVdia HD sound

Thanks for the fast response X2P, another question, if i did use this as an optical cable, are the adapters hard to find, and also is it Toslink for sure? Like i said, i see a red light shining in there when i disconect the mini jack to rca stereo cable.

    Thanks again!

Edit: Reason i am wondering is because i can program my harman kardon receiver to have the laptop on on HDMI2 and then tell it to use optical for the sound, and if im not mistaken, it is capbable of feeding the receiver with true dolby 5.1 surround sound in the settings.

Hi again, ive found a toslink cable with the mini jack connector.
So now i can have it set up on the receiver with 5.1 surround capabilities for sound and the HDMI for the HD video.

Were do i set up the use Nvidia HD sound as default, or is it ok to use both Nvidia and Realtech?
    ?
I saw it last night when i was playing around, but now cant find it, perhaps it needs to be connected to everything first?

    Again thanks for the help.

Problem solved, i isntalled the optical mini into my receiver and its automatically set for HD dolby. I found the cable at "The Source" in case anyone needs it, and its made by Recoton.

    Problem solved, thanks :)
