I purchased this laptop from futureshop for $599 yesterday.

Toshiba Satellite S50D 15.6" Laptop (AMD A10-5745M/ 1TB HDD/ 8GB RAM/ Windows 8) - Silver : 15" Laptops - Future Shop
I was just wondering if anyone else has this laptop and how their experiences have been so far, and also what everything thinks about the price. I think its a steal for the price, great processor and ram and the dedicated graphics are great nothing special or high tech but for the price I dont know if you could get something much better. so far I've had really no bad experiences with the laptop the screen is great and the overall feel and design is one of the best I have used.
That's it for now ill edit this thread in a few days with how things are holding up and going for those interested in purchasing this product.

That seems to be a very decent laptop for the money; quad-core CPU and an entry level dedicated GPU.
Although there may not be owners of that exact laptop on this forum; the Toshiba S50/S70/P50/P70 models should all be very similar [only the internal hardware would differ].
Here's a P50 Thread: [I believe the P50 is one step above the S50]

I know one possible question other readers may have would be regarding the battery life; perhaps if you have the chance you could comment on that [completely optional, up to you]
Good luck and keep us posted with any updates. -
also, i've noticed the laptop gets really hot (a lot more than my brother's. although he lacks a GPU and runs intel) so i'm wondering if this is normal. and after using it for a while (~2-3 hours) i noticed the whole kbd was as if water condensated on it (not my sweat btw). when i wiped it off it went away so idk if thats normal either... i think its due to the heat but i'm not sure. it was mostly around the black plastic of the kbd -
thanks for the replies,
@alexUW - the battery life is not the best, 3 hours or so on light use maybe more it varies 4 max.
@casrip - Yes I've noticed it too but its nothing to worry about, I think its the HD which I plan on replacing anyways as it is a 5400 HD which is a bit slow, as for the heat mine heats up also but never too hot to the point where you say condensation forms, even when I game it gets hot but never too hot, I track my temperatures using speedfan and under gaming the cpu and gpu temps are around 65~ C -
hey, same place (futureshop) is having a sale on the HP ENVY 15. 50 bucks more for a faster processor and twice the graphics memory. it also (based on HP website) features stuff like 4 USB 3.0 ports, a finger scan lock and the network card is 10/100/1000 Gigabit accessible vs 10/100 of S50D. it also has beats audio and a 6 cell battery (vs the 4cell of S50D) and still lighter than the S50D. based on customer reviews S50D battery life is a little short (3-4 hours) and based on customer reviews this variation of envy 15 has 5-6 hours battery life. if you're still within the return policy and got 50 bucks to spare, i think its worth considering a swap.
based on HP website, the envy 15 series does feature a backlit kbd, but i'm not sure if this specific variation has it or not. if it does, thats another plus.

my friend got a S50D and his laptop doesn't make the noise that mine does, so i'm assuming it is not normal. i'm not risking it, gonna get the envy 15. last thing i want is a dead laptop in the middle of the semester
EDIT: it does not, however feature a CD/DVD drive (not a real problem considering how fast they're getting outdated)
S50D thread.
