I'm still trying to install the new hard drives and Vista 64 on my X-205 and have not yet been able to find the drivers I need to get it to recognize the new drives when I install them.
Am I going to be required to "slipstream" (no clue what that means) a driver onto a disc or isn't it possible to have the driver available on an external drive or USB stick so that when the Windows install disc stops and looks for the driver I can browse to it?
If the answer to the above is yes, then can someone please point me to the correct driver so I can finally get this thing done?
Thanks

Using a USB stick won't work. The Windows install will only recognize a floppy drive. I spent hours trying to make my USB stick pretend to be a floppy, but never found something that works.
Slipstreaming is very easy.

Greg,
That drivers says it's for a 32 bit system, since I'm installing 64 bit will that one still work? -
Oh wait you are installing Vista? You don't need a SATA driver with Vista. It is included. The SATA driver is only needed for Windows XP.
What exactly is the problem you're having? Because SATA raid controller drivers are definitely not it (if you are installing Vista). -
You would think, but for whatever reason, when I remove the existing hard drives and install the new clean hard drives and then attempt to install x64 Vista using a new OEM install disc, the installation stops and tells me there's no hard drives in the computer. It gives me the opportunity to "browse" for the driver but doesn't find it on the OS disc nor does it work when I throw the factory drive in an external case and USB connect it so that I can browse it.

That is strange... Try this:

This is other stuff that may prove helpful if the above doesn't work. But try the above first:

Yeah I did a search on the page you linked me to for the 32 bit and down loaded that one too, figured just in case I needed it I would have it.
Also went to the site you listed for Slipstreaming, linked over to Vlite for Vista and downloaded that, now I just have to try and figure out how to use it.
Thanks for the help. -
Ok no worries. If you run into more problems just post back. Now knowing it is Vista I'm pretty sure this is the one that will do it for you.
-
I won't get to mess with it for a day or so but I'll post up if it works.........assuming I can figure out the whole slip stream thing.
Can I just put that driver on an external hard drive and browse to it when the install disc gives me that option? -
EDIT: of course my experience is limited to XP sata drivers. I've never seen someone need one for Vista, so I don't know what options it will give you. -
It actually does provide me with the opportunity to browse for the driver, but as I haven't gotten it to actually work yet that could be a moot point.
-
Yea I edited the post to include that I'm basing my experience of XP. You'll be the first person i've known to do this for Vista
.

Heh, don't hold your breath waiting on success.........this thing's kicked my tail for the past 3 weeks or so now.
