Before I go buy a cable.

Edit: Also, does the TV need to be progressive scan?

S-video works fine for me on my 32" SDTV. HDMI is also awesome on my friends 65" HDTV :).

I don't know who you would want to use s-video, as the resolution is horribly low. The built in screen will look better than any TV using s-video.

It is cause I'm going on vacation and my friend living upstate only has a CRT and a big old projection TV. Ususally we play a new PS2 game, but the only game I have that I haven't played is the port of the PSP's slient hill. So I have a lot of PC games that him and his family never tried and that give everyone something to do on the rainy days.

Yes, it will work if you use a standard 4 pin S-video cable. However, as previous posters have said, the picture will be interlaced which makes text and everything blurry, so you may have to keep the resolution at or near 640*480. S-video supports up to 1024*768 if you can deal with the blur.

everything I've read says s-video (ntsc) maxes out at 480i.......might be fine for a low-res port like you mention, but I'd still think it would look better on the laptop screen.
