I just Bought the Toshiba SD05 and want to upgrade the hard drve. unfortunately the computer came with minimal packaging and does not explain how or what SSD drives are compatible with my laptop. Can anybody advise what SSD drives are compatible with my laptop?

Googling Toshiba SD05 didn't really yield any results as to what laptop this is exactly, do you have a more precise model number? If your laptop came with a HDD, then it will take a standard 2.5" SSD, you just have to make sure whether you need a 7.5mm thick drive or a 9.5mm thick drive and how to access the drive bay. If it's an ultrabook, then it may take a mSATA format or the SSD could even be soldered to the motherboard which would leave you without upgrade options.

thanks for reply, im sorry your search was wasted by my bad writing it should be Toshiba S50D-A...had a look underneath and there doesn't seem to be any clear user friendly markings to show where i should unscrew the hard drive...its definitely not an ultrabook...thanks for your input and advice tijo :)

Looking at the user manual: Toshiba Canada - Support Center, the HDD doesn't look to be easily accessible. There is definitely a way to access it, of this I am sure, but it might not be easy.

Here is the review of the S50: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-S50-A-10H-Notebook.99543.0.html. It's not exactly identical, but both models have similarities in the chassis. It looks like you'd have to remove the bottom cover completely, you can also fit a 9.5 mm or 7 mm hard drive. If the S50D and S50 share the same chassis that is and there is a pretty good chance they do since they look to have the same manual. I haven't found a teardown manual though, so if you do it, take your time and be careful.
