    I have a 1405-s171 with a problem.

It started with the laptop not recognizing that the AC adapter was plugged in(no charge or power lights). I figured it was some loose connection inside, so I opened it up, and tested everything for continuity. Everything checked out ok. I put it back together, and plugged it in; everything was ok. Then a few days later it did it again(no lights). So i repeated my process, and got the same results(should be expected).

Well, I figured maybe it was the battery, since it is 4 years old. I purchased a new battery, put it in and charged it up. Everything was working fine for about 3 days, then the same problem: no lights. I have discovered that if I let it sit for a couple days without the battery or being plugged in, it works for a few days then stops.

I am afraid it may be the motherboard, but I would like to remain positive about it. I'm not about to drop the dough for a new one. Like I said before, I tested all connections on the board for continuity from the AC jack to the battery. Everything seems hunky-dory.

Does anyone have any experience here? Could it be the AC adapter?

    Thanks 1,000,000 in advance

It sounds like a faulty connector or the AC adapter. I would seriously consider a new laptop though if at all possible. I can only see buying a new AC adapter as an acceptable "repair" to your problem right now. Anything beyond that, I would look at a new notebook instead of a repair.
