Just a newie here so please be gentle with me if I'm in the wrong place.

CD/DVD drive in my daughter's Toshiba Satellite A10 has stopped playing discs.
When the disc is inserted there is noise that it is trying to play, but after a few seconds the message is " no disc detected".

1st question: Would the whole drive need to be replaced?
2nd question: Could it be done by someone with a fair knowledge of things technical ( we have a copy of the Maintenance manual for the A10)

    Appreciate any advice

    Thanks

You might want to delete the ide drivers. Windows will re-install them when rebooted. If you have the service manual it should explain how to dismantle your notebook. There was a post a while back on how to take apart a Toshiba, can't remember if it was the A10. Good Luck.
