My issue is that the Battery Status indicator in the Status Tray won't update dynamically. For the first few seconds after initially booting (when plugged in to AC) the icon will show the charging action of gradually filling up the battery symbol - then it stops. Hovering the mouse over it shows a static number (currently 56%).The battery is actually charging though. The LED on the front of the keyboard tells me this and when I reboot the laptop I will get an updated number (of, say 87%).

My real issue though is that when running off battery I have the same issue. The icon will continue to show 100% all the time and then the machine will die after a couple of hours after the battery runs out.

So, my issue is not the behaviour of the battey, that's all fine, its just the real-time updating of the indicator.

I've upgraded the BIOS to 5.90 (the latest) and also the Toshiba Value Added Package to 1.1.3 (the latest).

I've also loaded 3rd party battery monitoring utilities and they all exhibit the same behaviour so I don't think this is a Vista problem per se, I think its more of a driver problem.

Any tips and pointers would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. I have the same Toshiba model.
Problem is not OS-dependant. I have a dual boot on my machine and I'm experiencing the same behaviour on linux.
No idea on how to solve the problem.
