Hi, I am new here :p

I am on a tight budget and have found a Toshiba A105 S4054 for $649. It has a Centrino (solo) processor, looks like it meets all my needs, I am a "basic" user (filled out the questionnaire on the "what notebook to buy" forum). I was going to open the Toshiba and pull it out to begin using it when my mom reminded me that her A75 series has been beyond horrible. She has had the dreaded freeze/static issues many have and is so beyond turned off of Toshiba that she swore I would be sorry.

I have searched the forums here for issues with the A105 series and don't find a lot of conclusive results as to people liking it or hating it. I understand the battery life is pretty poor, but for me 2 or 3 hours is okay.

I wonder if Toshiba has resolved the A70/A75 issues by now with this new series. SO - what do people think of the A105 series of Toshiba Satellite notebooks? Is it a mistake for me to use this or take it back unopened so I don't have to pay the restocking fee at Circuit City.

Would love some constructive feedback if people like or dislike the A105 series, and my model inparticular. Thanks so much!

I would say it is very close to A100 HW and BIOS, thus you should check out this topic (as it looks like every A100 does it, so it should be the A105 case too):
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=66491

Be sure to check out the screen before you buy. Try sequential shades of gray - as some colors (every fourth) are displayed correctly - prepare five pictures with solid colors for example RGB[40,40,40] - RGB[44,44,44] (decimal; it is easily spotted in this range, it can be even more visible when you look at the screen from bottom) - if you see artefacts (pixels of different color spread over the display, like in the photo I posted in that topic) on any of the pictures (it should be 41,42 and 43), consider very good if you want to buy.... (It is BIOS issue, so you can use old BIOS (losing fixes from newer BIOSes) or Toshiba should fix it in new BIOS, but at this time, it IS a problem).
