    Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and have tried to recover to factory default settings using the supplied Toshiba recovery CDs. This is what happens...

At first the recovery seems to be working fine and it copies files from the first recovery CD (1of2). I then get a message "Please insert next media and press OK to continue" and the CD tray opens. When I insert the second CD (2of2), it spins as if trying to read, then opens the tray and again gives the message "Please insert next media and press OK to continue".

I thought perhaps it was a dodgy CD2, but when trying to recover from the hard drive partition without using the CDs (i.e. pressing 0 at start-up and following instructions for out-of-box state) I get the same message. Surely if I'm recovering from the HDD then I shouldn't have to insert any media?

I have tried this a number of times and get the same message. Also, sometimes after inserting CD2, I get the message "Error copying file or folder. Cannot copy PREINST001: Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check)."

I would be eternally grateful for any help on this one!

    Euan.

Maybe you can ask Toshiba for some new Recovery Disk's.
Yours might faulty, your dvd's are probably pretty much a copy of the one on the HDD

Thanks for the quick reply! But any idea why the same message is coming up when I try to recover from the HDD? Surely I shouldn't need to insert any media in this instance, should I?

you only need to press next or skip if u do not have more then 2 cds , you can just skip the 3rd one that the computer is asking for because u do not need it.
The 3rd cd that it is asking for sometimes contains what is called media center that will boot into linux running just media center it is something the a200 does not have however a close model does.

To sum up just place in the cd 1 and then 2 and when it asks for the 3rd one just click ok or skip the 3rd one is optional and does not apply to your model.

You can always call Toshiba to confirm what i said is true. :D they will answer u that question no charge even if u are out of warranty.
