Well, I just went to Curcuit City and say one today. I liked a lot about it but I do have some questions.

    1. When Santa Rosa comes out, do you think that this model will be upgraded, if so how soon?

    2. Is the upgrade to Harmon speakers really worth it?

    3. I am a college student getting my first laptop. I need it to:
    a. Watch videos and play music
    b. Use microsoft office pro easily
    c. play some blizzard games (warcraft/starcraft)
    d. internet/email use
On toshibas web site it shows that there is only the Intel 5500 and then a jump to 7200 (I think). For what I need it for is there any reason for me to go up to the 7000 series? I think I can just up grade the graphics card to handle my games but processor tooo?

Thanks a lot guys and gals. ;)

Ill share my experience with the former A100 series model. Basically it had a T2500 Core Duo, 1gb RAM, 120 gb HDD, Nvidia 7600 go...

It handled all of my needs, which are pretty much the same as yours. As far as santa rosa goes, Im not sure how fast Toshiba will adopt the new technology but it should not be more than a month or two.

The harmon kardon speakers were actually decent. When I sold my Toshiba for my current macbook Pro I could immediately tell the difference in speaker quality. The harmon kardons were louder, and slightly less "tinnier." Watching movies or listening to the occasional song on those harmon kardons was actually pretty good. Doing that on my macbook pro, the sound dissapoints me. But I have a good set of headphones so thats ok.

The T5500 is fine for your purposes, probably even overkill. But if you can afford it, get the 7200 so it will last longer (future-proof wise). The 5500 will still be good though. Older games will still play on the Integrated GMA 950, so that shouldnt be a problem. BUT...

With Santa Rosa there is supposed to be a better integrated solution called the X3000 i think?? anyways it is supposed to be better so if you can wait for that, then wait. If you cant, just buy it now. Santa Rosa will not have significant speed improvements that you will be able to notice.
