I've successfully loaded Windows XP on 5 or 6 current chipsets (mostly G33's) and have had [minor] problems locating drivers, but eventually I can find the drivers for XP.
So I get this system (A205-S5804) with the Mobile GL960 chipset. When I just try to load Windows XP Pro (I have a slipstreamed CD with all the mass storage drivers from Driver Pack and nlite), it gets through configuring everything before the first boot. When it goes to boot the first time, I get a BSOD (flashes so quick I can't read what it says). I can only assume the SATA drivers is set to native for Windows Vista, but there is no where in the BIOS to configure for RAID/IDE or compatible/legacy. So, aside from finding the actual drivers needed (which takes time but can be done), the real question is: "Is it even possible to load Windows XP with the Mobile GL960 chipset?" Is there a more currect driver to slipstream that will work? Or is this laptop 'crippled' by not having the option needed in the bios to switch from SATA and RAID.
Anyone with an A205 and the Mobile GL960 chipset that has successfully loaded WinXP? It looks like Lenovo has a model similar with the same chipset that offers it with WinXP. Thanks for any help.

Just FYI... I figured it out. I didn't have the latest Mass Storage driver from DriverPacks ( http://driverpacks.net). I had v7.12 and v7.12.1 was released. I also got the Chipset and LAN driverpacks. I then slipstreamed them all using the DriverPack Base software. into my already SP2 slipstreamed XP files. I then went to nlite and slipstreamed all the Windows Updates available through October. I burned the bootable CD with Roxio 10, did the install, crossed my fingers, and everything went smoothly.
The only drivers I had to load were the video, audio, and wireless drivers. I wasn't sure if it was the Realtek HD audio or not. It was just in the Unknown Devices as PCI Device. I loaded the MS patch for xpsp2 for the Audio Device on HD Bus, then loaded the audio drivers. Audio is working fine, but I have the Yellow ! on the Audio Device on HD Bus in the Device Manager. But it is not causing any problems so I'll leave it like that until I can find the right driver.
I got these 2 laptops from Best Buy for $449 this week. One of them I had a $100 off for signing up for Comcast, so in essence, I got them for $399 each. Pretty nice laptops (I really like Toshiba). Just wish there were more USB ports on the thing! -
Just bought one yesterday, love it for the price. Keep my workhorse computer at home. As to your question about the audio driver, Vista
had a lot of complications with audio drivers of all platforms due to its
new audio architecture. The schematics of it are totally different from
earlier audio in XP, 2000, and the earlier versions. This was way over
due, considering MAC's considerable superiority in the sound department.
So to keep pace with Apple, Vista designed a totally new audio architecture for Vista. So now past sound devices might be compliant (with patched up drivers) with Vista but not fully functional as they were with XP. With the current breed of laptops, some might have adapted to the Vista audio version to keep in pace with technology, so it might be a pain to find the right driver
to work with XP since the two architectures are almost completely different.
I myself have already begun the dual boot process and intend on finding
that driver, because I prefer XP on certain programs. I will let you know
if I find it in a future post. Realtek is the key word you wanna focus on, because this is the company that provides the drivers for this laptop and many other computers. Even so, don't be surprised if the driver is a little
sloppy. Keep you posted. -
I got one too..love the price, and also wish there were more USB ports, but this thing is very fast and sleek once I tweaked out Vista. Is it possible to upgrade this model at all or are you pretty much stuck with what you have? I would love to get a better graphics card , buit if not I am happy with it.

I have a windows xp pro with all updates integrated through December 2007. I followed AJR's instructions and got the driver packs slipstreamed into the windows cd and re-burned it. I burned it at 4x just for fun. It gives me a few errors:
when it is at the part where 'setup is copying files' it gives me errors that it cannot copy the following files:
-Cyclad-z.inf
-cyclom-y.inf
-ieframe.dll
-msfeedsbs.dll
So i press Esc to skip the files to resume installation. It finishes copying and reboots to the screen where the GUI is a little prettier but before it gets to where it resumes setup i get the following errors:
-error loading 7-zip32.dll
-windows cannot find c:\dspdsblr.exe
I click ok to resume setup, enter my cd key, set day and time and it finishes setup, restarts and BSOD before booting windows for the first time...any thoughts? -
Sorry for asking here:
A relative of mine has bought one of these in Best Buy. I will need to upgrade RAM for him when we meet in a week. Do you know if this Best Buy sale Toshiba comes with 2x512 or 1x1gb? -
Regarding the issue with the audio driver. I found a slipstream walkthrough for a A200 PSAE3C model using nLite; I guess this is a similar European version,
Code:http://www.tamalecart.com/toshibaA200/downgrade_Vista_to_XP.pdf
You also need to slipstream the ICH8 HBM/AHCI SATA DRIVER.
Also remember it will only work on Win XP SP2.
All other drivers are apparently compatible (I wonder about the modem though?).
Anyway, to make it simple you can probably use i.e. Driver Genius Pro to "extract"/backup all drivers and burn the together with the Realtek HD Audio driver and the SATA Driver to a separate CD, used for system configuration after XP install.
So use the pre-installed Vista version to prepare your slipstream and to backup the drivers.
I have not yet tried this, but I will give it a go tonight, and hopefully it is as simple as it seems.
I tried AJR's suggestion with driverpack's slipstream, but I constantly had a BSOD, even with Mass Storage driver v7.12.1 and the even newer v8.1.15.
Hopefully this will do.
And it did! Everything is up and running, though I had to run driverpacks slipstream first and then pass this one through nlite, where I could burn a bootable CD. This is the big issue I presume, you have to burn in a bootable mode, not just burn... (This mistake costed me hours of frustration and about 15 useless CD's)
The only issue I have left is the display driver, but I can live with it (I have some yellow! marking on these, not 100% compatible apparenty, but working. The system will not accept the driver from the Intel website and refers in the errormessage to the manufacturer, but I still have a resolution of 1024/768. I'll try some more tonight i'd really like the possibility of 1280/1024 stated.
Anyway, I just found some drivers on the German Toshiba site, once everything tested I'll post a link with all drivers needed - there was actually quite a few to update. -
jpetrov - The Best Buy comes with 2x512M, so you need to change them both (I believe I paid $79 for the 1G pair)
This is logical with a Duo Core, you will notice a considerable slow down if you try to run on 1 chip only. -
-
I also slipstreamed the SATA drivers and had a successful clean XP install. Found most of the drivers (wireless & Ethernet, graphics, and sound) but so far do not have the modem working. Before installing the sound driver, there was a yellow ! in "Other Devices". Adding the sound driver got the sound working, but after rebooting, XP identified a new device. It also shows up under "Other Devices" but is labeled "Modem device on High Definition Audio Bus." This leads me to believe that the modem is part of the sound card, so perhaps a different driver will solve the problem. The one I used was Realtek High Definition Audio, version 184. What version sound driver worked for you? Is that what drives the modem as well?
30 minutes later...
Well, after so much exasperation, I decided to just try the one on the supplied (Vista) CD. Looks like it worked. I used the "Toshiba Software Modem" - so far, so good. I do not have a phone line to test it out, but using the modem diagnostics in Windows, it says it's working. No more yellow !'s !!!
Now, what about the software that came on the CD? Any of that good in XP? -
Okay, maybe I'm just not getting it, but I've tried a few approaches in an attempt to install WinXP on my Toshiba A205-S5804 laptop. I did the slipstream WinXP with SP2 and DriverPacks Mass Storage. I tried the approach on the Toshiba website, which is to use a USB floppy drive and hit F6 during the disc boot to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver. I even did a disk partition in an attempt at a dual-boot.
Every time it gets to the 'Install XP' point, I get the 'Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer' error.
According to others on this site, it is possible to do this, but I am really having a difficult time. Could someone who has successfully downgraded (upgraded, actually) their system from Vista to XP please tell me how they did it? I very much appreciate the help and advice.
Thank you ! -
Hi Guys,
I used the guide posted at http://www.tamalecart.com/toshibaA200/downgrade_Vista_to_XP.pdf for the process.
It was really helpful & very easy to follow. I was able to install XP SP2 & Sound card drivers, but somehow my network adapter & wireless network card is not working.
I tried so many dirvers but nothing helped. I was wondering if anyone could help me getting my network to work.
Please let me know if you need me to provide any info from my side for you to help me if at all possible,
I would really appreciate any help as I'm stuck with a non-networked laptop at this point of time & I really can't use Vista as XP is the requirements at my wife's school.
Please help.
Thanks -
As mentioned in your earlier post, you were going to post the links for drivers that you update & test.
Would you be able to post the links to network adapter & wireless card driver link, both of these are not working for me after installing XP SP2.
Thanks -
I'm new to slipstreaming and could use a few words of advice.
My XP is:
Windows XP Professional w/SP2 and all updates integrated December 2007.
I've already downloaded all the driverpacks and nlite.
All I am trying to do it slipstream the sata drivers into XP.
Without these drivers, my XP installation cannot see the hard drive.
Any help? -
I got XP installed and plan on posting my method(s) after I get some sleep.
In the meantime, can anyone share links to working XP drivers?
The intel video drivers worked 100%.
I am in need of:
Audio, LAN, WLAN, SMBUS, MODEM (not really important - modems suck).
Do Vista drivers work for XP in this machines case?
Thanks,
JUNK -
After installing XP.
Since that was such an awesome guide. I must do my part.
Here are all the drivers, tested on A205-S5804.

Zhen8301,
Thank you for the great contribution. It looks like the copied url included a session ID that now says "Session Expired" I took out the session ID in the url and came up with this link:
http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/71/li...enu_1=Satellite&ProductMenu_2=1341133&x=8&y=5
which goes to a page with drivers for the Satellite A200-(PSAF3A). Can you please confirm that is the page you meant to go to? -
Hey guys I can`t figure out how to enter BIOS setup on my Toshiba A205
There is no F2 invitation on first screen with Toshiba logo, so I tried to press and hold Esc like it is described on toshiba web-support, but it does not work either. The problem is that I loaded default BIOS settings occasionally due to previous checksum error, and now the system apparently can`t find HDD and writes "Operational system not found". But I CANT enter BIOS anyhow!
No F1 prompt, no F2, I tried these keys when laptop starts - no effect. BIOS = phoenix, I believe.
Any suggestions? I will appreciate your help -
Sorry about that...I was so excited to post the drivers. Yes, I used all the drivers for A200-(PSAF3A). I have a A205-5804, PSAF3U, and all the drivers worked beautifully.
They are from Toshiba.au. XP is working great, and I have all drivers loaded and working great. -
Its definitely the F2 key. try tab to bypass the splash screen and then f2. Good luck.

Hi,all
I got myself a Satellite A205-S5803 model. According to specifications it seems to differ from S5804 only in Vista edition. S5803 comes with Vista Home and S5804 - with Vista Premium.
Does that mean the downgrade to XP process discussed here is identical for my S5803 model?
Is it possible that anyone shared a zip archive of all necessary XP drivers for this model? I can see a lot of you guys here managed to downgrade successfully, so me and a many of those who have similar problem would be very grateful for help.
Thanks in a advance!!! -
I'm thinking the process is going to be the exact same for your S5803. I followed the suggestions in this thread and got my S5804 converted over to XP without too many issues. Does anyone know how to get the "FN" key to work? It would be nice to adjust the brightness and those other functions. Thanks again for everyone's help and recommendations.

Hi, frednpa! Thanks a bunch for sharing the drivers!!!! So do I slipstream these into my XP boot CD and I'm all ready for the XP installation?
So,as far as I can see, these are SATA, Ethernet and WiFi drivers. Apparently, I will still need to find the chipset, graphics and audio drivers, right?
Do I find and slip stream them too onto my XP boot disk before the installation? Or should they be installed separately afterwards?
Thanks! -
You need to add the sata (put on usb drive) on boot up,F6 then XP should load, the rest can be loaded later. There are 17 drivers I think some are to big to add here due to restriction, here are some more... View attachment Intel(R) ICH8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E.zip

View attachment Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850.zip
View attachment Mobile Intel(R) PM965 GM965 GL960 Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 2A00.zip You will need Realtek Highdef. audio,38.6mb, Mobile Intel express chipset family,29,3mb plus about 6 more smaller Intel drivers, they should update from Intel web page....Good luck. -
Thanks for the drivers! Been looking for them!
-
Thank you for sharing the files and being specific!!! I'm sure you've saved a lot of time for many people!
-
Sorry but I believe you need to download the sata driver to a floppy, then use portable floppy drive to install on boot up, leave it attached during the whole set up, sorry for the confusion,frustration........
-
Can't I just slipstream all the drivers (incl. SATA) onto the XP Boot disk? So that I didn't have to worry about USB and Floppy drives... In this way the all the required drivers will be installed directly from the same CD as the operating system, the missing drivers I'll be able to install afterwards. Right?
-
Not according to the toshiba web site, you could try copying the drivers off Vista, some have said they will work with XP. I don't know I wiped out Vista before I even thought about that. If you look at toshibas web site there is a link [Ask Iris] or ask someone, input your model # etc should be articles on vista to Xp

this links are not working, could somebody put all drivers on RS and give links here?
-
Go to the toshiba australia site, numerous xp downloads for the a200 that worked on my a205 check your model number use the same number but change it from U toA, my hot keys now work and so does the power saver... the only problem I seem to have is the volume is not as loud as it was with Vista

Hey guys, not XP issue but a BIOS issue for A205-S5804
So I have been trying to find the new BIOS for A205-S5804 laptop and noticed that non-US Toshiba sites tend to have updates before the US Toshiba site. I was able to get the 1.9 off of Australia Toshiba site weeks before it appeared on the US site.
Now I came across a 2.10 BIOS version on a UK site.
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.c...jsp?service=UK
Satellite A200 (PSAE6) for Win-VISTA
You guys think it's an equivalent to the US version model?
The one I used off of Australia site was: Satellite A200-(PSAF3A) -
After searching this entire thread and numerous other posts for all the drivers to downgrade windows Vista to XP on the Satellite 205-S5804 here is what I've found.
1. The best step by step guide for this process can be found here (all this has been posted by other uses for the most part, I'm just trying to organize it in one post): http://www.mediafire.com/?g0xwcm0dmmi. The preliminary to this which includes some important information (and a fun video on Windows Vista) can be found here (I recommend you start by reading this): http://www.tamalecart.com/toshibaA200/
2. It appears as if the Satellite model PSAF3U has the same drivers as the A205-S5804 if you are going to run XP. There are different drivers if you are running the Vista OS.
3. I found the drivers both in the guide referenced above, as well as the Toshiba site. Go here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp
then navigate to the A205-S580 model. You can refine the drivers by operating system at the top left of the page.
4. In the guide (which written for PSAF3U) there is a key piece of information which relates to the A205-S5804. Here it is:
Toshiba S5804:wireless/lan adapter fix after following the XP downgrade guide:
chipset: Mobile Intel GL960 Express
Your adapter is a Realtek RTL8187B_WLAN_ADAPTER.
Download the 8187b drivers from Realtek's site.
then go edit the .inf file to read it like this:
;;****************************************************************************
;; IDs for 98SE/ME/2K/XP
;;****************************************************************************
[Realtek]
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8197&REV_0200
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8189&REV_0200
After the edit, install as usual from the device manager.
To edit the .inf file just open it on notepad and replace the info with the one above.
I hope this helps. -

Hi, all! I've managed to downgrade to XP, as advised in the PDF. The two issues I still have unresolved are:
1) Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus in my device manager keeps showing with a question mark, can't find driver for that
2) Hot keys don't seem to function the way they used to on Vista.. For example, I can't adjust screen brightness and mute, but I can toggle the video view states, so they seem to be partially disabled and function in a different way as indicated on the keyboard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! -

I hope someone still check's this thread. I have tried so many things, but i cannot get this machine (A205-S5804) to boot into XP.
I have slipstreamed the driverpacks from driverpacks.net
I have used the instructions on the guide (downgrade_vista_to_xp.rar), including the hotfix realtek HD audio drivers..
I get Windows installed, and everything seems okay. But, when the PC boots following the install, when the Windows XP splash screen shows up, the PC flashes the BSOD (too fast to read) and it goes back to BIOS.
I have no idea what to do, suggestions? -
Hey all...I am running my head into a brick wall. I have downgraded to xp and have found the sound and video driver.
I have a marvell yukon 80E8839 pci-e fast eithernet controller and a Realtec RTL8187B wireless 802.11g 54Mbps usb2 network adapter.
There is no driver on the internet that I have found that will work with xp and these devices in this laptop.
If I go to the marvell website I get a server error from all the links on the forums.
Has anyone solved these issues for the A205-S5804?
Thanks

hi guys, my friend has this Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 running on Vista Home Premium, and somehow she put a password on it that pretty much locked any settings to be changed, i.e. Users removal, applications installed/removed, etc. To add to her woes, she somehow forgot her password (don't Ask). I tried removing Vista via trying to load XP by CD method and came up with "Hard Drive Not Found!!". Also, I tried using a disk wiping software I saw on a forum, but after downloading the software and attempting to install it on the Vista machine, I found out about the part about the application restriction due to permission settings. So now I can't modify anything nor can I remove Vista. In a stroke of genius, I thought a good idea would be to take out the HDD and place it on a XP machine and run a format on it. Well, it worked, it's as clean as a whistle (120GB)!! I now happily inserted my XP CD in the newly BLANK HDD only to find the same "Hard Drive Not Found!!" So now I don't have any Vista or any OS. I read some posts about changing the settings of the HDD to run on IDE as opposed to RAID, but I have read and re-read the BIOS and cannot find any such place in which to make that change. I know the BIOS brand is Phoenix but I have no idea as to the version #. Within the BIOS itself it doesn't give much info on the rest of the machine, but I know someone out there can help me with this matter. Sorry for such a lengthy post, but i felt I had to express all I had done.
Thank you all in advance, -
vikbz,
There are 4 pages of posts here on this topic that go through a lot of the detail in getting Windows XP running on the Satellite A205-S5804 (PSAF3U). I read through them last night and was able to get all the devices running under XP.
Toshiba does not have an option in their BIOS for this computer to disable the SATA functionality. The easiest option for you is to get a USB floppy drive and download the Intel ACHI F6 drivers from the Toshiba website for the A205-S5804 (PSA-F3U) and copy them to a floppy and hit F6 when it prompts you during the initial loading of WinXP from the WinXP CD and choose the Intel ICH8M ACHI driver. Leave this floppy drive in during the setup process and it will successfully install WinXP. After installation, there will be about 6 devices in device manager that are unrecogized (yellow question mark). You could also slipstream the drivers to a new WinXP install as several others did in this thread instead of using the USB floppy drive.
I chose to delete the Vista partition from within the WinXP setup program and reallocate the entire hard driver for WinXP. No external program was needed.
Go to www.toshiba.com.au and search for the A200 (PSAF3A) drivers on their support site. They have both XP and Vista drivers available and most are compatible with the A205-S5804 (PSAF3U). Download all the drivers for XP except for the Wireless drivers, the ATI video driver and the Synaptic TouchPad driver. The US version of the notebook uses the Intel Video driver, a Realtek Wireless card driver which is not on the Australian site and the Synaptic XP driver would not install. I ended up installing the Vista Synaptics TouchPad driver from the US Toshiba site and it works. Install all the other needed XP drivers such as Realtek Audo, Intel Video, Intel Chipset, Software Modem, etc.
You need to download the Realtek 8178B Wireless card driver from the Realtek site and make a modification to the .ini file found in the Realtek XP installation directory and change a portion of the line in the Section labeled "IDs for XP/..." to PID_8197&REV_0200. It was PID_8187&REV_0200. This will allow the driver to install.
The are also other Toshiba programs on both the Austrialian and US support sites you may want to install to get full functionality from your notebook.
Good luck! -
how do I do the following (copied and pasted from the above post - jbuc89):
"get a USB floppy drive and download the Intel ACHI F6 drivers from the Toshiba website for the A205-S5804 (PSA-F3U) and copy them to a floppy"
Satellite A205-S5804 and WinXP (BSOD on first boot) - Any help appreciated!
