I just picked up a Satellite A215-S4807...trying to figure out how to use the touchpad to scroll....anyone know how to do it, do I have to have something configured to allow me to do it?
-
It should be there by default. It was on the one I reviewed.
-
for me it's not enabled, does anyone know how to enable it?
-
First make sure that Synaptics Touchpad utility is installed on the laptop. If it is, for scrolling, use that far right side of your touchpad to scroll up/down.
Follow this solution;
1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize > Mouse Pointers. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
Alternately, click Start and type Mouse in the Search field, and select Mouse when it becomes available in the program list. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
2. Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings. In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Scrolling topic. This is where you can enable or adjust the scrolling feature -
ok, I went to toshiba's website and downloaded and installed this:
Synaptics TouchPad Driver for Windows Vista (v10.0.1.0 Logo; 08-22-2007; 6.57M)
when I open mouse properties, the title of the window says "Properties for standard pointing device on PS/2 port"
also, there is no where in there that says anything about Scrolling. Any idea what the problem might be? Lemme know if you need anymore info.
-
Restart the computer first. If you can see on the screenshots, it says "Standard pointing device ", it should be "Properties for Synaptics Touchpad". It is only recognized as a regular mouse. That is the reason why you are unable to find the feature.
Here is the screenshot
-
I've restarted several times, still says "Standard pointing device"
do you have any suggestions? -
I suggest that you try to uninstall the Synaptics from your Add/Remove programs. Goto Device Manager and remove your mouse from the device list. Then without restarting, install again the Synaptics Application and restart the computer.
-
ok, I
went to add/remove programs and uninstalled Synaptics, then went to Device Manager and removed my mouse, all w/o rebooting, then installed the synaptics application, which gave me an error:
I haven't rebooted yet...what do you think the problem w/ the install is? -
Restart it, so that it will detect the Synaptics Touchpad hardware. When you start Windows it will look for new hardware and will install the closest related driver for the device. Also make sure that there are no USB mouse connected on the laptop
-
ok, I restarted.....it didn't try to install the driver and now the mouse doesn't work. What can I do?
-
Try to use the Fn+F9 key to re-activate the Touchpad function. Check device manager and mouse properties again and make sure that they are properly installed
-
Thx, got it working, however, I still can't scroll using the touchpad :confused2:
device manager doesn't show any conflicts.
Do you think it might be a problem with the trackpad? -
I dont think so, because if its with the trackpad then why is the cursor moving? Why dont you try to download drivers from Synaptics web page itself.
-
ok, lemme start by saying Toshiba's customer support absolutely blows...anyway, I kinda got it working....I had to do a factory system restore and I figured out the culprit....it was this Synaptics driver that I downloaded from Toshiba's support site:
Synaptics TouchPad Driver for Windows Vista (v10.0.1.0 Logo; 08-22-2007; 6.57M)
I verified it by installing it again on my fresh system.....however, the synaptics driver isn't installed on a fresh system, it's alps....is there a way to install the above Synaptics driver w/o losing the scroll function? -
Why are you using the Synaptics driver when you have an Alps touchpad? They are made by 2 different companies.
-
yeah, I just realized that
thx though
-
hey Gehx i hve the same problem :S i tried the solution mentioned by the member but still can't make the scrolling thing work .. if u scussed in making it work again plz reply me ... it's driving me crazy actually
-
Good Luck. If I use the Synaptics Driver I don't have the scroll option available, nor does it automatically work. If I use the Alps driver, the scrolling works, but I can't get to the mouse (or touchpad) properties. Both drivers are on Toshiba's website for my particular model. I think the pad is made by Alps but uses Synaptic's drivers.
When I access mouse properties (via Control or Toolbar icon), using the Alps driver, I get an error message:
Window Title: Synaptics Pointing Device
Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver.
If you installed another PS/2 Pointing Device please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking the Yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again.
Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics driver now? Yes No
Yes, I know for sure the Alps drivers are installed, but I get this message. Apparently there are serious issues with both drivers. I'm thinking the Alps driver does not link the mouse properties user interface with the Alps drivers. -
Ok, I fixed this issue. I own the Toshiba A215-4767 notebook. Toshiba's website offers both Synaptics and Alps drivers. The Synaptics driver does not offer scrolling, at least for me it doesn't. The Alps driver works perfectly, including access to all the setup options for the pad.
If you are having problems like I described in the previous thread, go into Control Panel/Programs and Features and uninstall the Synaptics driver. If you install the Alps driver before uninstalling Synaptics, you'll have problems.
If you are still having problems, verify you uninstall Synaptics, remove the mouse from devices, reboot and install Alps. -
For my A215-S4767, I first uninstalled the Synaptics drivers. Then I downloaded the ALPS drivers from the Toshiba website and installed them. I had many, many more options available with these options, including scrolling. Remeber, you must uninstall the Synaptics drivers from control panel/programs first. Don't allow Windows to install anything after you reboot. Install ALPS. Reboot.

I tried your solution to install the ALPS driver, but I can't seem to get the ALPS installed before windows automatically re-installs the Synaptics driver. Is there anyway to disable this automatic installation?
