I've owned several Toshiba laptops before now, and liked every one. I just ordered this same model (A500 customized) with:

    2.8GHz Core 2 Duo
    4GB RAM
    ATI Mobility Radeon 4560
    Vista Ultimate 64-bit
    edge-to-edge screen
    slot-load drive
    320GB 5400rpm HDD
    backlit keyboard

So basically almost all the bells and whistles. But the one piece of information that I couldn't find was the exact screen resolution. I currently have a 1680x1050 HP (its one redeeming feature), and I want to know what to expect...

Thanks a bunch. Tho', I was expecting something with a little higher resolution - it said it gave support for 1080p resolution on the website somewhere, if I can find it again...

EDIT: Okay, found it - it has 1080p support with the HDMI output. D'oh.

I am interested in purchasing this laptop very soon and I've been looking at it for some time now. I have a question though. Everyday I go to Toshiba's website to configure this notebook and the price changes each time I do it even though it's the same specs. Why does that happen? It makes it difficult to budget for it.

Toshiba has been running a lot of one-day specials recently. Wait until they have a big sale - holiday sales are usually pretty good - and it should stabilize.

I checked the price today since the $100 off sale is on and my configuration was more expensive by $5.00. I'm starting to look at HPs now even though I despise them. My Toshiba A500 configuration now costs $1360. My budget was $1200 which was $100 more than it cost when I first looked at it. This is really depressing me because I really want this A500. Everything on this laptop is exactly how I want it to be.

Well it's official. I've given up on this Toshiba. I'm going to buy a Dell Studio XPS 16 instead.

Hello! It is my dream to get this laptop, will prob get it later in the year as its price drops a lil. I read basically all of this topic and most of my doubts were cleared pretty good.

One thing I would like to know is if the laptop having that 12 cell battery that sticks out a little, interferes with it fitting a 16" laptop bag, I was planning on getting the laptop with its respective toshiba 16" laptop carrying case.
