Does anyone have this model or know much about it? It looks like a pretty good deal for the money...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114653
I'm just curious about build quality, and heat and I want to make sure the graphics card isn't underclocked or anything.
-
Nobody has this model or knows someone who does? I know it's a newegg exclusive...
-
well, I just bought the A505-S6965 from Bestbuy. The diference between these 2 is the GPU and the Amount of HD space (I think). And like I said, I just bought it, Im waiting for it to arrive to my sweet home
The laptop looks great I gotta say, honestly that one is better (S6969) cause of the Video Card. I´ve heard that Toshiba Model is GREAT
thats all I can say hehehe
good luck -
Thanks
I think I'm going to recommend it to my brother-in-law... and I'm seriously tempted to get one myself. I'm a little worried about temps...
-
I wonder how the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 compares to the 4650. The 6969 has a smaller HD.
-
-
The way I see it, I can always put in a larger HD or use an external
But upgrading the video card in a laptop? Well in most of them that's a no-go. Still, if they're identical other than that, I'll look for reviews on the Bestbuy one...

good luck ... !!

I too would be very interested in hearing from any owners of this laptop. I've got it on my watch list but am concerned about the heat comments made. I'm hunting for a replacement for my EX625 as my wife is desperate to take it over because it runs 32bit vista which works for her VPN apps and other work software. Plus she really likes it.
So, I'm stuck searching for an adequate replacement and this Toshiba looks nice, although not as good as my EX625, especially considering how much I paid for it. -
About the heating problem, I suppose its not that bad since the comments i read, only stats that it kinda heats up with gaming. Check out the comments on BB, all of them (except one) puts on 5 Stars.
-
Good luck finding an MSI EX625.. I don't know why but they disappeared. Some people had some trouble with it too, per the MSI forum. Yeah, the Toshiba is $100 more, but I haven't heard of any major problems... yet...
-
I too, am interested in this model. Toshiba/Newegg also have another laptop that is the same price, but it has a 17" screen, 320gb hd, and a 2.0 core 2 duo (opposed to a 2.1).
EDIT: oh and 1440 x 900 opposed to 1366 x 768
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114650
Only downside I've found out of the two is that the battery life is really bad and it produces some heat, but in return you get a ATI Mobility HD 4650!
I just can't decide which one to buy... -
Right now I have the A505-S6965! Its so awsome people, Im gonna post the Unboxing of this laptop and some pics for ya'll to see
-
Congratulations! i was drooling over the A505-S6965's backlit keyboard at BB the other day and was wondering if it would fit my Qosmio. The shape seems to match but need measurements.
Would you mind measuring length and width from the narrowest point on your A505's keyboard? Again congrats--nice machine! -
oops! Just realized thats the newegg model that doesn't have the backlit keyboard. Should be the same size though.
-
Sure... Let me get myself a Ruler though xP
-
36 cm horizontal.. and 12.5 cm vertical
Thats exactly the Keyboard only, including the numeric pad. You can check out the Toshiba website for more info. on this measure stuff lol
cheers -
Hey thanks! Was just checking out Toshibas site and the LED backlit keyboard is a $38.25 extra when customizing the A505.

Yep! But I think its better if you buy it from BB since its cheaper. Im not sure on that but Its worth it since it has all of the little detalles (DVD Slot, Face Recognition,Backlit, bla bla bla) at only $750 plus tax...
-
Toshibadirect does offer quotes, not sure about the A500 model but I was quoted $1750 for my Qosmio that listed for $1999.
-
Can you make that backlit keyboard stay on? When I was playing with it at BB it would go off after about 30 sec.'s of inactivity then come back on whenever a key was depressed.
-
Nice find on the 17". The processor is a little slower, and it's going to be heavy but if you want a desktop replacement that screen is better.
-
I wonder just how hot is hot on the 6969. People say that but then don't give temps! Most laptops with decent GPUs get pretty warm while playing games, but 'hot' is subjective.
-
Actually its 15 secs. I haven't gone to modify that, maybe you cannot I don't know... yet
-
A back lit keyboard. I have a S6960. Think I'll look into seeing if I can swap in one of those.
-
? ok ? ...
-
So guys what do you say, which one I should buy
A505-S6969: has better gpu ati 4650
OR
A505-S6965: backlit keyboard,better cache,better FSB,sloted optical drive (has ati 4570)
I am inclined towards S6965 for its better features , how much difference will be between the gpu performance ?
Plz urgent reply required

Not sure if this helps...
You can also go to Toshibadirect.com and configure the A505 and get the components that you want. Definitely call a sales person and request a quote. -
I tried to configure it on Toshibadirect.com and with the 4650 card it becomes more than 1000 $ ,so i guess i will go with the best buy model
-
Call a Toshibadirect sales person and ask for a quote, They gave me $250 off on my X305-Q706.
-
what the Core Clock and Memory Clock ATI 4650 in TOSHIBA Satellite A505-S6969, can someone upload the screenshot of GPUZ, what about benchmark 3DMark06
-
the a505-S6969 has the ati 4650 is better than the 4570 on the a505-S69695. for crysis on high its like 10-12 fps difference between each card.
-
i would get the this toshiba because it has the best graphics for its price range, the processor actually out performs the "bestbuy" model but it does consume more power. you can always but a 9 or 12 cell battery if you need to. as for the hard drive you can replace it too. if i where you i would buy the 6969 and get a 9 cell battery.

The laptop decision depends on the users needs really... So I don't know why they ask hehe
-
@ XxLblinkxX:
Are the temperatures and emissions of ur BB model under control, or are they undesirable? -
hey maximus,
well everything is under control. Heat (temp.) is under normal cirunstances, even if gaming, you can feel the heat just beside the vent opening
which is normal doing its job!
-
Newegg's looks like a very good deal. Just note that it is using centrino and not centrino 2.
Not sure how much difference 800 versus 1066 FSB makes.
I dont think it would be too much of a difference.
I say for $799 it is a good deal for $899 you can do better somewhere else. -
@ XxLblinkxX:
Also pls tell me how the battery life is (say, while using it on power saving with decent brightness..). I'm considering the Newegg model but i suppose the battery life of these models must be almost the same. -
Battery life with normal settings (balance) last aprox. 2 hours and 30 min.
Eco life above 3 hours...
High Per. about 1 hour and 45 min. or so...
Not really accurate since I always have it plugged in... but for me its just great. If you use it alot outside, it might be not enough.
The one at Newegg has ATI 4650 remember that, makes it more power consuming!
-
Ok, nice. Pretty decent battery life.
Thanks. -
I am about to buy this laptop and did some reserach on an extended battery. There apperas to be one (part #: PA3727U-1BRS) that is a 12-cell (vs. 6 for the standard). But its pricey.
Still, I most likely will go with this and do the extended battery later. -
Hi Krista,
I have that exact laptop. It is well worth the money. Vista does still suck really bad...and the trackpad is a pain the my rear!!! Seriously, using it a lot lately has been giving me wrist pain. Overall though, you can't beat this laptop for the price. The 3d games are amazing. -
my friend bought it 3 mouth ago,,no heating problem!! temps are really low..build quali is great,,which surprised me
