I recently purchased an A665-S6093 and overall am please with the performance. However, the hard disk is a dog and I am thinking about replacing with an SSD. Anyone done this, I am pretty sure it should work. Will the recovery DVD's allow me to reinstall the OS (Win 7 64 bit HOME Premium) and drivers? Last question, the BIOS is typical of OEM implementations, limited tweaking, I would like to have more control in terms of setting voltages, RAM etc. Is there a "hacked" compatible BIOS .rom out there?
Veteran of many desktop builds, so I am used to being able to adjust or tweak BIOS. Even done some laptop teardowns and repairs, so I find it frustrating Toshiba really dumbs down the BIOS. Thanks in advance, all responses are appreciated. Cheers,
Danners
BTW - I know cracking the case will void the warranty. I think I can make this machine more responsive, just need some encouragement![]()

Bump, I too want to know the answer

Bump again, really would like to have some input if anybody knows anything. I have not tried the Toshiba forums, for the most part what I have seen is not particularly helpful and is never responded to by someone from Toshiba. alexmuw, good day mate!

Sorry my post might not help. You may even be aware of the tidbits I'm going to share.
I haven't installed a SSD card though there are a number of posts around the forums that explain several methods.
However, I don't remember them mentioning the Recovery Disks as one of them. They tended to suggest a legitimate download and backing up the licence key, followed by a visit to the manuafactuers support site to get the relevant uptodate drivers etc.
Again in my searches around the forums there were several "cracked bios" for various machines, I'm sure there could be one for this machine. I'll try and locate the threads and update. -
I was lectured by "Know it all friends" that the back up disk would not work correctly. But, luckily when I bought my ssd (crucial 128gb) it game with the clone software, and cable. This is the software and cable I used:

Thanks Red Mayor and Scanner for your replies. I was thinking the recovery disks would probably not be useful, but you never know. It appears you could do it from the recovery environment but you would have to specify and resize the new partition on which you would be doing the restore to. Sounds dicey at best.
I thought about using something like Acronis True Image (there is a free trial version - not sure if it is limited or fully functional), of maybe even the Windows backup, but in my readings it seems like the best way to install is to do a clean install. I really don't want to have to buy another copy of Windows 7 since I have an OEM license for one already courtesy of Toshiba. Any suggestions for other free disk cloning software? I am thinking of buying and OCZ vertex 2 120 GB, has great specs and appears to have very strong support in the enthusiast circles. Scanner, your corsair drive came with this software and cable you gave a link to, where did you get it from? Is it the C300 series, I understand this drive really screams on a SATA 3.0 interface, my laptop appears to be limited to SATA 2.0. Anyways, I will keep staring at reviews and am open to any suggestions. Cheers,

I purchased it from here:
128GB Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5-inch... (CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1) at OWC
Correction: I borrowed the cable and software from one of my "know it all friends." His ssd came with the disk and software.
