Hey guys, I bought this laptop about 2 years ago at a black friday sale for $400. So its really not the best laptop out there but got me through school just fine up till today.

My problem is that the laptop just died when it was running earlier today. I tried pressing the ON button but it does not start at all. So I decided to disconnect the battery and the ac power off. when i plugged back it, i notice that the battery charge light along with the power light are both on when i connect it to the wall outlet plug. The power light usually blinks amber color when its off, and green when the laptop is running. This time it was green but nothing is running. I also tried using only the battery, but as soon as i plug in the battery, same thing happened (battery light on and green light on, but laptop does not start up).

I really have no clue what is wrong with it, but I did a random google search and found a topic about the laptops staying in sleep mode. I dont know if this is the case or perhaps something else.

    I really appreaciate any help/comment/suggestions.

Its hard helping in such cases at long distance but here are some pointers :

    1. Try powering without the battery inside .
    2. Try pressing the power button for a good few seconds while it is plugged .
    3. Blinking amber power light is not off , but "sleep mode" . Could it be you left it on for a long time ?

I have two of these darn things and at the very same time, both of them began to have the very same issues. It is the power cord on the back of the computer. I was able to watch both go out within weeks of eachother, Toshiba is known for this, the flex in the back seems to not work well at all. I've talked to various computer techs that I met at Radio Shack when I attempted to fix myself due to the fact a new one is $100 and having a tech somewhere fix it is about 50 dollars. I bought two new one's for about 19 each at I believe it was called geeks.com. One I had to send back as it did not work well, however the other I've had now for 4 mos with no problem. You can try push in on yours or wiggling it around to see if momentarily the lights change or turn on, one of mine would wiggle and work (I taped it stationary) until I received the new ones. This is extremely popular with all satellites from what techs have told me. They state that they have more satellite power cords than any other that are brought in.
Sorry you were a sucker as well. Also, I don't know if you've used the recover cd yet? I was taking one and erasing and reloading for my son when he returned to college, it blew the entire hard drive. It continues to ask for me to load my Windows 95 cd in my FLOPPY DRIVE A??????? Hello, there is not a floppy drive a:. They are now stating that since my computer is out of warranty, they are not responsible for including a messed up recovery disk. I tried to use my other one as well and it does not work. Let's see if there are other things.......oh, there was a recall on the battery and they never contacted me although they have all my registration information. The battery unless you've never "felt the heat" and had your computer turn off on you can actually destroy your hard drive and various other components. When I requested the new one, they stated I was too late, the recall expired?????

I'm a student as well and it only takes a minute to file a complaint with your Attorney General's office. The more people that file, they may go after them. As I was not as lucky as you to purchase at that low price, I did not receive back my rebates from Toshiba either, was supposed to be nearly $200 each. They keep blaming OFFICE DEPOT and OFFICEDEPOT Toshiba. They had me mailing items/receipts back and forth and requesting additional information until I finally gave up, (did not have time). I've included this in my complaint to the AG as well. I believe my rebates and your low price was due to the issue's in this reply.
