I can't get the internet connection to work on my new Toshiba laptop. I've tried connecting to various wireless networks, and continue to have the same problem. The computer acutally appears to be connected with the detail showing that the status is "connected" and the signal strength is "excellent". However, when I open IE to pull up a webpage I get a "page cannot be displayed" error. When I manually connect the computer to the router, the connection works perfectly and I am able to acess web pages. There are also other laptops using the wireless networks that I have tried to access without any problems. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

Are you sure your wi-fi switch is turned on?

Yes - the wi-fi switch is on, as I am able to locatge various networks and supposedly connect to them. I've tried switching the wi-fi on and off, then reconnecting, and get the same result.

I've tried using both types of software to identify problems with the connections and both result in connections with no apparent problems. Packets are sent, but no packets are received.

Check that you have the WPA or WEP security and passphrase set to match the Router or Access Point.

Also, check that you have registered the Wireless adapter MAC address with the Router if you are using MAC address filtering on your wireless network.

The wirless network that I'm trying to connect to does not have any security enabled. The other laptops connecting to this network were simply turned on, and they automatically worked due to the lack of security barriers.

This is an old thread. I'm sure he is long gone now.
