Hi, I've just ordered my M100 (still waiting for it ) and i have some question bout the fing3rprint scanner on its functionability and reliability.

    1. If some-one would have stolen my laptop that i have set my fingerprint security on. Will the thief be able to access/use my laptop anyhow??

    2. How reliable is the scanner? Will it fail to recognize my print and lock me out?

    3. Even if it fails, is there other ways to login / access the files? (Like passwords)

Appreciate if M100 owners can comment and shed some light on this. ;)

No, only you are able to access your notebook since its your fingerprint. There is an astronomical chance that a person could access your notebook (1 out of some number of millions), but I doubt a theif would be that person. Also, if the fingerprint reader fails to read your own fingerprint, you can make up a type-in password through Windows as a fail-safe way to get into your notebook.

To bypass the fingerprint reader. Simply start up in safe mode and logon as administrator. The fingerprint reader is designed as a user logon protection not as an ultra secure lock. Our company uses an IT generated password for administrator rights and gives us the fingerprint thing for our logons.

If you assign the fingerprint as the administrator it is more challenging to get past it but by no means impossible. If you want the best protection use a bios password with an administrator password and a seperate user fingerprint/password for everyday use.

Finally, If they want access bad enough, they can get it....

P/s: My thought was even if someone would have stolen my laptop, they will not be able to use it :D
However.....wat if they disassemble it and sold the parts!!
