Family member has an M40, but the screen just went blank on it. It's less than a month old so it's going back to the store, but has anyone else has experience with this?

The screen still "lights up" but there is no picture. The laptop still seems to boot, the processor lights flicker, the computer itself appear to be running, but nothing is appearing on the screen.

    Help. :)

Sounds like a dead backlight. This happens from time to time when the cable comes loose or hte light simply poops out for whatever reason.

As Brian indicated, this sort of thing does happen on notebooks. If you said that the screen still lights up but no picture, then it's possisble the video card ir dead or you have a loose cable. Both cases require a replacement or service.

Best thing to try to narrow down the possible problem is to connect an external monitor to see if it doe sthe same thing. If it's the same on the external, then it's a dead video card, if not, then it's a loose cable. If your LCD doesn't even light up, then it's a backlight issue.
