My friend has a Toshiba M40 series shutdown problem due to
overheating. He has sent back the unit to Best Buy bout 3 times now
and the warranty has expired. I am not sure what they have replaced (probably the motherboard). Is it possible it is the RAM or more likely the CPU is damaged and they have not replaced it. Bought a vantec cooling lapcool3 and it still didn't do the job. Any suggestion other than getting a new laptop?

Please give me some suggestions as to how to fix this problem?
Should I replace the CPU or the RAM or could it be something else?

First is to determine the part of the laptop which is getting more heat. Check the components involve on the part. Could be the CPU, HDD, or Battery, but never the memory. Memory produces a little heat only.

Also check if the laptop cooling system clogged with dust. Overheating is also caused of improper ventilation
