so like 4 days ago i was using my laptop, there were no problems, and it randomly shut down. i thought maybe it over-heated so i left it alone until the next morning. but then it still didnt turn on. so then i tried every outlet in my apartment and still nothing. my roommates computer works so i know our outlets work. ive taken the battery out and it still wouldnt turn on. i tried using just the ac power and the lights went on and it starts to power up and then will shut off again. whats going on?!

Does the notebook display any warning or error of any kind? It seems like its a motherboard problem, or perhaps the power connector socket isn't quite working correctly. Check the socket visually for any signs of damage, and also check the Ac adapter. I you are under warranty, then getting Toshiba to repair the notebooks may be the next step.

i have the same computer. and it did the same exact thing. right before finals! i took it to the tech guys at school, and they told me to try to replace the battery. so i did that, and there was no difference. i could get it to stay on for maybe 15 min, but in order to do that i had to unplug the ac adapter and take the battery out, then put all of that stuff back in. it was hell. so i took it to a real computer repair place, and they basically told me that everything was fried, and they didnt understand how i could have done this. it's awful. i backed up all of my stuff to an external HD, and am buying a mac.

I had the same issues with the M45-S265
After booting windows and the items in the systray load up, my system then starts the shutdown process and turns off.
Then it gets consistently worse.
After powering the system up, 2 seconds later at the toshiba logo the system reboots over and over.
It seems that Toshiba has heating issues. I read may posts of clogged heats sinks and inconsistent thermal grease being applied to the CPU from the factory.
The fix :
Go to a PC Store (Frys, Newegg.com) and buy some Thermal Grease ($5 -$10), Arctic Silver is a popular brand. If you can find one with a Brush Applicator get that one.
Power the laptop off, flip it over and remove door #4. You will see a copper heat sink secured over the CPU by 3 screws. Removed the screws and slowly detach the heatsink. The CPU should now be exposed.
Wipe the factory Thermal grease clean from the top of the CPU and from the underside of the heatsink. If the heatsink is dirty use canned air and blow if clean.
Liberally apply a fresh coat of Thermal Grease to the top of the CPU and to the underside of the Heatsink.
Screw the heatsink back in place.
Turn the laptop on. It should power up normally.
I am posting this from the same laptop that would not come on until I did this fix.
Hope this works for you guys too. Good Luck -
as with any computer, back-up your data.
