Hi all.
My 18 months old M60 just had a very untimely death it seems.
I shot it down, tried to reboot and nothing. It is plugged in but the blue/green power indicator light is not on. If I install the battery same thing happens, the orange battery indicator doesn`t illuminate. If I press the power button, for any lenght of time, nothing happens. In the evening I have noticed that the blue/green AC power indicator light does flash for a fraction of a second when I connect the power cord to the unit. That is all the indication I have about any power getting to the unit. I checked the voltage at the DC end of the power cable, it is 19.5 volts.
I took the system apart, thanks to CJ2600`s excellent website for the instructions, the DC jack is not broken, Toshiba has changed the design of the connector. I checked the voltage at the soldier joints where the DC goes into the board and it shows 19.5 volts. The reading at the battery charging terminals is wild, sometimes 1.5 volts sometimes as high as 10 volts with the battery not connected to the board. With the battery connected it is around 12 volts. When I unplug the AC connector and check the battery voltage while it is connected to the board it seems to be the same 12 volts so I presume it is giving me the battery`s power reading and the board doesn`t charge the battery. So it seems I may have a defective board, does anyone know if it is repareable or should I source for a new or refurbished one? To say that I am immensely disappointed with Toshiba`s reliability is an understatement. If the replacement cost will be prohibitive be rest assured I will never buy another Toshiba product. Not that it will hurt them one bit but at least I will have a small amount of bitter satisfaction (close to CA $2000 out the window, *hit).
Any help is appreciated.
Alex
