    Hello guys.

I recently purchased my new notebook, a Toshiba Satellite P750-755 and i have some problems with graphics. For example when i play PES 2012 or Nba 2k12 some flashes (less than 1 second everytime) that appears on the screen and have effects on it. I have already set those games to High performance nvidia and i have installed last drivers.

Can you help me? Grateful to you for your help.

Is the screen flickering? Like the inverter is going out or something?

I had an P750 , it is led backlit, I don't remember having any problem like that, have you gone back to the original Toshiba nvidia/intel driver and see if that helps, if all else fails us the Toshiba recover , to restore the computer to it`s original purchase state, but remember to back-up all you data.

If you will have the problem then, it a hardware fault and you should return it.

I agree, why waste time fixing it when it's a brand new notebook, just take it back to the store.

Best Buy (.ca) has the AMD Radeon HD 6520G listed on the Toshiba, which turns into a 6720G2 when in crossfire, correct?

The 6520G is listed as integrated and when in crossfire it combined integrated with dedicated to form the 6720G2, correct?

I'm just trying to understand AMD's crossfire a little more because I was looking at the Asus K53TA as another option, but it's more expensive. The Toshiba link has it listed as "integrated" and Asus as has theirs listed as "dedicated", which is a little confusing.

    Toshiba Link:
    Toshiba 14" Laptop featuring AMD A6-3400M Processor (L745D-00L) - Blue : 14" Laptops - Best Buy Canada

    Asus Link:
    STAPLES | BUREAU EN GROS

So both laptops should perform exactly the same in terms of light/moderate gaming, correct?

    Thanks in advance

    ---

    Edit:
    One more things ...
I found a thread that indicated Toshiba does not let the user update your video drivers to the current set. Is this true or simply incorrect information?

That Toshiba you linked only has integrated graphics; no mention of a dedicated card which would be needed for the A-series crossfire; AMD Radeon HD 6520G only. No crossfire.
Here's another site that verifies only 6520G: Toshiba L745D-00L (L745D-00L) AMD Quad-Core A6-Series APU for Notebooks with AMD Radeon HD 6520G Graphics 14inch 4GB RAM 500GB HD Windows 7 Home Premium Details

The ASUS does have a dedicated card. Llano is a bit confusing, but the 6720G = a dedicated 6650m + integrated 6520G. The Toshiba above only has listed the 6520G integrated graphics. The ASUS will perform much better than the Toshiba.
    AMD Radeon HD 6720G2 - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Just keep in mind, A-series laptops can come in BOTH integrated only, or integrated + dedicated

Toshiba, like ASUS, can have their drivers updated to the latest versions available, but it's not "officially" supported. However, you could still run into install issues.

    Good luck

There happened to be a deal at OfficeDepot these days so I went there and took a look. The laptop looks good but a serious problem with it was that the image quality from the webcam was really bad - fuzzy and not smooth at all (probably under 20 fps). I wonder if this is by accident or it really has the problem. Another laptop beside it (I can't exactly remember the model number but it used a pentium dual core with HD integrated graphics card) didn't have such problem - the picture was vivid and the video was very smooth.

BTW, is the S5269 equipped with a 0.3M pixel or 1.3M pixel webcam?

I don't know what the webcam is, but a few reviews at this site confirm the webcam isn't very good.

Hi, collegue of mine have a Toshiba Satellite L755d-10j, and HDD died so he ordered WD scorpio blue. How difficult is to replace the HDD? Also he lost his Windows cd, so it is possible to use my cd and then use his cd key? Thanks for any advice.

HDD should be plug and play [as long as the HDD is 2.5"].

As for recovery, he will need to use the Recovery discs for his exact model number [L755D-10J]; unless you have the exact same laptop he cannot use yours.
If he did not make these discs while his laptop was functional, then he will have to order the discs from Toshiba [goto the Toshiba website of your country].

I'm guessing that laptop is from Europe; try this link: Laptop Support - Toshiba

    **EDIT**
He can also try a clean install of Windows; install from a Windows 7 Home Edition disc. He can then use the product number found on the sticker on the underside of the laptop. He still would need to get a hold of the Windows disc.
Here's a site that might be helpful: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

If he decides to go this route, he will need to install the drivers for his system manually via the Toshiba website. The benefit of using Toshiba Recovery Media would be that all teh drivers needed for his laptop will be automatically installed.

    Good luck

    Satellite P755-S5375 15.6" LED Notebook - Intel Core i7 i7-2670QM 2.20 GHz

I can't find a review of this notebook, thinking of picking up one for my wife. I'm not sure if this is a older model, it's not on Toshiba's web site.
    Anyone have pros or cons?

Should be a newer model as the i7-2670QM that is included is a chip released only a few months ago [i7-2670QM replaces the i7-2630QM which was released at the beginning of 2011].

I would just look for generic P755 reviews; should give a good picture of what the laptop is like. However, keep in mind the specific specifications can differ considerably.

It's hard to find, but if this is the laptop, at a sub $800 price, I think you can find better. Toshiba Satellite P755-S5375 15.6" LED Notebook - Intel Core i7 i7-26 | Overstock.com

I would consider waiting a few months, as the next lineup of laptop with Intel Ivy Bridge are set to launch very soon. Even if you don't want Ivy Bridge and can live with Sandy Bridge [the current i5/i7 lineup], that should help drive the prices down a bit on older models.

    Good luck

I found out yesterday that the intel core i5-2410M in my Toshiba Satellite L755-S5258 laptop does indeed have the AES-NI encryption instructions unlocked and enabled (function is not accessible via BIOS).

In my screen capture .jpg image (AES_NI_Enabled.jpg), note the following:
TrueCrypt 1.7 Encryption Algorithm Benchmark - note 1.3 GB/s Encrypt and Decrypt speed.
Also, note at the bottom of the TrueCrypt benchmark screen (middle window), "Hardware-accelerated AES:" says "Yes"
CPU-Z also shows "AES" in the "Instructions" field.

    Hey alexUW -

Thanks for the quick reply! (I like your avatar, btw...where'd you get it? Looks like a toroidal representation of the magnetic field of a pulsar, maybe?).

At any rate, my previous post about AES-NI applies, as far as I know, only to my Toshiba L755-S5258 laptop. I obviously can't speak for the rest of the laptops in the Satellite L750 lineup.

However, I can state, unequivocally, that no intel core i3 CPU is even masked for the AES-NI instruction features, so there is nothing to "unlock", as it were. No core i3 CPU (mobile or desktop) can perform AES in hardware.

I am mostly relieved to find out that my CPU isn't hobbled or crippled, in any way, via "locked" features. I like to have everything that I paid for to be fully functional. I'm just funny that way.

I'm interested in the P740, seems to be a pretty powerful 14-inch laptop, but I don't care for the 1366x768 screen I've seen on it at Best Buy.

I've taken a screen out of a Toshiba Satellite before, I know it can be done with not much difficulty, but what I'm wondering is, how do you know what other screens will work?

The screen in the P740 is an LED-backlit 40-pin 1366x768 screen. Would a 40-pin LED-backlit 1440x900 screen work or a 40-pin 1600x900 screen? Is the pins and the screen size (and the backlight type) the only thing that you have to match or are there other issues?

I wouldn't. Not with a 720p screen and a bluray combo... I mean, it's a good machine, but you really can get way better for $650.

    Do you have any suggestions?
He's not looking for a gaming machine, though I think he might do some video encoding. I wanted either an A8 or an i5 or i7. I thought the bluray would be a nice bonus... but I suspect it's not a requirement. I wasn't seeing anything on newegg, at least, at a better price with a large-ish HD and USB 3.

I would personally advise anyone looking for a laptop, to consider buying a laptop from Costco [warehouse or online]; especially the case for sub $1000 laptops.

They give you 90 days to return, 2 years warranty on all their computers, and US based customer support for the lifetime of their electronics.
The warehouse usually has sub-$1000 laptops, while their online sites has a bit of everything.
Costco - Computers - Shop All Laptops

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the laptop you mentioned, if your considering it at the MSRP of $750, then I would say pass. But if you can get it from the $500-$600 range , I would say a good buy.

BluRay is not really a benefit unless you have a 1600x900p screen or 1920x1080p screen [FULL-HD is 1080p]. The screen the Toshiba described above [720p] is only 1280x720 resolution.
However, the BluRay player can be useful if they have plans to hookup their laptop to a TV to watch BluRays.

    Good luck

If a similar model has a backlight keyboard, for instance any P775 series; then I would say it's possible [however, you'll have to do some research to see if any models exist].

Also, be aware that some cheaper models without a backlight keyboard [where higher models exist with a backlight keyboard], do not have the electrical connectors for a backlight keyboard; thus "upgrading" is not possible. Unfortunately, I do not know how to determine if your model has such connectors.

If you decide to proceed, then you can search Amazon, ebay or part-suppliers for the keyboard you need.

Here's one parts supplier: Laptop Parts & Repair, Notebook Computer Repair, Printer Parts - Spare Parts Warehouse
Part-suppliers are usually the most expensive option, but at the same time they are the ones the big name repair facilities use; so they will usually have the part in stock.

    Good luck

Is there a way to find out whether Toshiba Satellite L750D is compatible with standard C-SEL BluRay drives or not? There is this text:

"Toshiba Users. If you own a Toshiba notebook, chances are your optical drive is Master inverted C-SEL. If you update your optical drive with anything other then inverted C-SEL you will get the infamous IDE #1 error during boot." ( Slim drive compatibility )

Then reading forums I found people mentioning C-SEL/inverted thing being a common to older Toshiba laptops. So how could I find whether the current L750D is inverted or standard C-SEL?

I had Toshiba Satellite L25 (from some 2006, I think), which didn't have SATA connections, only IDE, and I put a a DVD-RW drive from some HP computer - worked. And from this item description it seems L25 is inverted C-SEL - it's listed there as a model that's compatible with an inverted C-SEL optical drive: Inverted Master Toshiba SD-R6472 Internal DVD Writer Burner Drive for Toshba Laptops

By the way, does this all matter with SATA drives? The BluRay drive I am thinking about is SATA.

There is no 'Master' and 'Slave' setting for SATA drives, so it probably doesn't matter.

    Hi all,

I was wondering if any has experience of or knows what would cause the problems I am having.

I have a L755-154 which during use switches off on battery power. As a result, it starts to 'corrupt' Windows, by reporting abnormal shutdowns, poor boot ups (black screen), driver crashes and blue screens (nvidia namely one).

    Thanks.

Sounds like you are having quite some trouble with your laptop? Is it still under warranty?

Yes, but found no hardware fault. It goes like this after a couple of weeks of usage. I dont install anything around the time it goes wrong and it becomes more erratic if I continue using it. This can happen in the middle of working in Visual Studio for example. It's not related to a specific program and never had this kind of problem with other laptops.

I was thinking about going for a HP DV6z AMD Quad A8. But I was reluctant about it to choose this as my main comp for the next 2-4 years. I read alot of bad things about HP these days and most of it is from over heating, motherboard failures and system malfunctions.

So far I've owned about 3-4 HP computers through 2007 and so far I did not encounter any problems for now. Right now I am using a old HP dv5000 which served me well until now but lately its gotten glitchy and still slow even after re-installations.

So anyway, I was thinking about this laptop as a 2nd budget laptop choice:
Walmart.com: Toshiba Aluminum Blue 15.6" L755D-S5130 Laptop PC with AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M Accelerated Processor and Windows 7 Home Premium: Computers

I heard that Toshiba is one of the most reliable brands out there next to Sony and ASUS with the least amount of hardware failure to this date. I never really had any interest with Toshiba in all these years because. . . well the design and feel looks cheap. My usage of my soon to be new laptop is mostly for entertainment home use like casual MMO gaming, movies, browsing and web chatting. I want to know the input from someone who had or used a Toshiba Satellite before.

You can run it at "High Performance," but running it at "Balanced" should give you the same performance with less heat produced.

it was interesting that none has put a review for this laptop.I am from India and bought this lap two months back.Major advantage i see in it is its overall performance viz, speed. But the speakers are the underperformers in it which doesn't allow you to watch a film or play a game without an external speaker. It has got three ports of which one is USB 3.0.styles and looks can be awarded with full marks.1 GB NVIDIA graphics card lets us play interesting and graphics demanding games.powered by intel 2nd gen i5,it is lightning fast.TOSHIBA could have definitely improved the speakers............
