Hi, I'm new here. I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6024 that I love, except it was supposed to come with a TV-tuner and remote according to the advertised description which was incorrect.

It's a great notebook, and runs very fast and cool, but I really would like to have the option of recording television, which is what I thought I paid for.

I'm thinking of returning it and paying a bit more to get the P105-S6134 instead. Does anyone here have that model?

It has a HDD and RAM double the size of the D6024. My only concern is that the hard drive spins slower... 4200rpm compared to the 5400rpm that I have now. Should I be concerned about that? I'm hoping it will run even faster because of the additional RAM, but I am unsure how the HDD speed factors in. (The processor speed is the same and the processor I have now is Core Duo T2050, and the upgrade has a Core2Duo T5200.)

My questions for anyone who has a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6134 are:

Does it run fast and cool?

Any noticeable lag with the hard drive speed?

Does the TV-tuner and remote work?

Is the TV-tuner external or integrated?

Also, if anyone has an opinion about the hard drive speed of the S6134 (4200rpm) and how it might affect performance, I'd love to read them.

Thank you so much in advance! :)

It will be noticeably slower. I personally would avoid it. You can of course upgrade to a faster drive after you get the notebook if you like all the other aspects of the S6134. Pretty much all other major manufacturers have forsaken 4200RPM drive since the Core Duo. I have no idea why Toshiba carries on. There are of course other options as well. Perhaps the FAQ would help us sort it out.

Thanks for your reply ZaZ. Yeah, it's really strange that it has such a low HDD speed. Not only is it core duo, but the storage is 200GB, and the RAM is 2GB.

I suppose I ought to call Toshiba a confirm that the speed wasn't a misprint before I write it off. I was hoping it wouldn't make a noticeable difference, because other than that, it's perfect for me.

I also would recommend you stay away from 4200 RPM hard drives. If the P105 you have now didn't come with everything that was listed, you do have the right to return it and make sure they give you what you originally wanted.

    Good luck.

I don't think it is a misprint. I have seen it listed in the specs. They probably do it cause it is the biggest notebook hard drive at the moment which does make some sense on a notebook made for recording TV shows, but the slow performance is a major turn off. You might want to take a look at the HP dv9000. It is a pretty slick notebook and can have two hard drives, though there is no RAID.

Thank you for that suggestion. Amazon is refusing to let me return it because it's been over 30 days, even though they misrepresented the product. They offered a refund of $120, so I may just see if I can find a decent external tv tuner and remote.

Do any of you guys have one connected to your notebook? I really don't know much about them at all, and it seems most of the reviews for the ones I looked at are very bad.

Thanks again for your input. :)

How long has it been? The credit card company may offer some assistance. I do have a desktop hooked to my TV, but no tuner. I live in the middle of nowhere and I watch so little TV its hard to justify paying for TV service.

Anna Rose, I have the same problem. In the catalog of my p100, there is a remote control next to it. When I opened the box, it wasn't there. I couldn't get a penny out of them. I really don't need a remote, but it's the thought that matters.

Who needs a TV when you have internet. The closest thing to watching TV for me is Prison Break on my Toshiba, or sitting on my laz boy with my x60s on my lap watching Seinfeld.
